Room upgrade using starpoints

I reserved a room at the Royal Hawaiian for April, 2007. I used extra starpoints to attain an upgrade. I asked how many more points would be charged in order to have a room with a water view. I was told they don't allow upgrades to water view rooms when using starpoints. Is this true of all hotels? This is the first time I have used starpoints, so I don't know all rules yet. Thank, Sue

Hi there, your question would be best served on flyertalk.com. In their forums, they have a hotel category which contains a VERY ACTIVE Starwood board, all about starpoints, how to use them, starwood hotels, you name it. On this vacation ownership board we have a few Starpoints experts, but on flyertalk you will find dozens.

I agree with Rocky that Flyertalk.com is the best place to post that kind of question. That being said, I believe it is up to each individual hotel to decide whether they will allow point upgrades or not.
