Room request at MOC

Requested a high floor and corner unit at MOC a full year in advance. Got there on Feb. 3 and were on the 3rd floor of the Molokai tower. Spoke with the manager about our request, he confirmed that our request was made a year in advance, but "multiple week visitors" made our request unfulfillable. Promised that he would make us "extremely happy" with our second week in the L/O. We were moved to the 4th floor of the same tower. Hardly high floors (there are nine) and certainly no corner room. My question to all of you is whether or not there is a way to secure a high floor (and /or corner) room in advance that will result in success? The manager suggested that we call two weeks in advance and ask for him to secure the request next time we visit...but I suspect that he will have moved on by then. I must admit that we have been made to feel like lesser owners with our EOY 2 BR OV unit. Suggestions would be appreciated!

Don't feel too bad. We own a garden view in the Lahaina Villas and last year requested a high floor. When we arrived, we were placed in a ground floor unit with a view of a small patch of lawn and the fence adjacent to the Hyatt.

I also own at Ko Olina and they have always been more accomodating to our requests for room assignment. Last year, I requested a high floor for my 3BR reservation and was placed in the penthouse unit in the Hale Moana building.

I think that little attention is paid to any request that owners make. I'm sorry but I do. If you get what you want I think it is all the luck of the draw. When we were in St. Kitts for 10 days in January I had requested the second floor and gave two choices of buildings. I did not get either one of them. I have a pretty good sense of occupancy and I made it my business to check some of the units in the buildings we had requested and I did not see anyone out on the balconies or any lights on in these units the entire time we were there. We are owners and supposed to get first choice. I made my request a year in advance when I booked my week and still got nothing.

Corner units are considered OF so don't think that was ever going to happen. Surprised that they couldn't accomodate with a higher floor though. I suspect that when you split your unit they have a harder time or are less accommodating for some reason.

We received a 8th floor corner unit that we just checked out of today. It was spectacular. I was only using the 1BDRM section, rented the studio to a guest but didn't LO to save the $75 so the resort considered it a 2BDRM OF reservation which I believe is a factor in room placement.

Now spending one day at the Grand Wailea before our trip home to NYC tomorrow.

I think calling or emailing 2-3 weeks beforehand, just prior to room assignment, is more helpful than requests made a year in advance.

I was impressed with the room assignment people at the Surf Club. I requested my usual high floor poolside room, and I also asked if my lockout exchange week, which was an OV assignment according to the II code, could possibly be placed in the same building, which is OS (and at the SC considered a more desirable view/placement). While I didn't get my usual higher floor room, I was given a 6th floor room and the exchanged unit was assigned a room across the hall. Clearly they tried their best to fulfill my request and I was impressed.

Maui Ocean Club makes room and villa assignments based on the date the reservation was made, not the date of the room request. It is absolutely true that February is the hardest month of the year to get your preferences because many owners make February reservations for several weeks in a row 13 or more months in advance. We normally book most or all of the month of February and there are quite a few owners who book even longer stays at that time of year. If you booked your February reservation only 12 months ahead, at least half of the rooms will have been booked for your week before yours, even if you were the first owner to book at the 12-month mark.

Room assignments are made 1-2 weeks in advance of check-in, so a couple weeks ahead is the best time to put in your request.

Just to echo what someone else already mentioned, it appears that full 2 bed units often get preference on room location over 1 beds and lock offs.

I've always got what I requested with the MOC when using my full unit and calling the week of the reservation to speak to "room assignments". Sometimes, from my phone conversation with the MOC staff member, I can glean that my initial request (13 months out) wasn't completely fulfilled (eg. I much prefer Lahaina Tower to Napili Tower) but that is always rectified before I arrive.

However, whenever I've used the lock off or 1 bed portions of the unit I've always found myself on a lower floor despite a high floor request. I think that's just how it is.
