My dad passed away mid-February— he was a jazz guy, and 90. He listened to his fave playlist during his last fragile weeks, which included 2 Bill Withers tunes, “Use Me”, and with saxophonist Grover Washington, “Just the Two of Us”. So good.

I love Bill Withers music. Ain’t No Sunshine is probably my favorite, but Grandma’s Hands is right up there, too. In addition to his music, he was also a man of great pride and integrity. He became disenchanted with the music industry and refused to sign with another record label after his contract with Columbia expired in 1985. His wife later took over the management of his music. He was in his 30’s when he became famous. He said he had been a regular guy before his fame and he could be happy just being a regular guy again.

RIP Bill Withers!

“Use Me” Bill Withers and Grover Washington on sax was an awesome combination. IMHO. Plus, they did not use vulgar language In that song. Smooth and clean was Withers music.

My brother-in-law just loved Bill Withers. I hope the two of them are making some sweet music together about now.
