I just looked on line for airfare from Richmond Va. to Hawaii for mid August 2009. I'm seeing fares of about $1000 per person round trip. Is this a good rate, are airfares going down? Bottom line - should I wait or book now? Thanks

Who knows if they will go up or down. That is a question only a crystal ball can answer. I do know that if you book non-refundable tickets now that you will go to Hawaii next August no matter how bad the economy gets and whether you can afford to go then or not. If you wait no matter what air fares do you might not make that trip given the way the economy is currently headed.

You could go out of Newport News (PHF) for about $200 less.

And, whether you go out of RIC, PHF or I can't remember the third airport down there....you have to stop no matter what, so if you can find a cheap fare out of WAS/IAD/DCA it may be worth the drive up?

One site I like to use to get historical airfares is farecompare.com - they also have details on how much the difference is to "Y-Up" - basically get a business class/first class seat from your coach ticket....sometimes there are real deals to be had, sometimes not!
