That was my immediate reaction as well...Reader's Digest article...maybe its just click-bait...or the criminals are putting a DNA search spin on it.

Agreed. It's amazing how some people just do not stop for one minute to think. If people did, they wouldn't fall for the timeshare upfront fee resale/rental scam or the infamous Nigerian prince scam.

Think about it -- every other day, someone posts a new message about "XYZ Ethical Super-Legit Timeshare Exit Company." You could take out ads during the Superbowl and tell the country that it's always a scam. And yet every other day, someone would still post a new message about "XYZ Ethical Super-Legit Timeshare Exit Company."

"Someone told me they were really good!"

People still go on timeshare presentations and buy a timeshare. 50 years of people like John Oliver telling the world what a bad idea this is hasn't stopped timeshare tours. Hasn't even slowed them down.

Dangle "free stuff" in front of the right people and they'll swallow the bait every time.

There's just two examples. You really can fool some of the people all of the time.

Had a nighbor fall for a scantly clad woman who had gold coins in Germany.

All she needed was $10,000 and an airplane ticket. He gladly obliged, his girlfriend was not so impressed and broke up.

The German Woman, had to deal with the authorities and only needed $50,000 more to get the bax of gold coins.


Needless to say the storty has a tragic end. The German Woman never showed, nor did the coins and the man died about a year later alone.

According to CNBC - ‘Nigerian prince’ email scams still rake in over $700,000 a year.

P.T. Barnum may have loved fools but failed to dazzle the children of the smartphone age and to overcome the fierce opposition of the animal rights movement. Maybe the Nigerian prince will disappear once a cure for Alzheimer and dementia is found.

I follow a YouTuber called Pleasant Green. He goes over the scams and how they work. He also uses his computers to hack into the scammers computer and wrecks havoc on them, so it’s entertaining to watch. Here’s a link to the airline tickets scam.
