Hi
Hitting PV to Villa del Palmar on 03 Jan to 17 and know this is the place to ask about restaurants. I would like to hear about where you've been and there is one I was at but can't remember the name. An outside tented rest family run about a block from Walmart. Anyone know the name. Also another was on a bus tour in the mountains behind PV and there was a small river that ran past it. Any help would be great. If you have a favorite please tell me.
Thanks

The one in the mountains behind PV might be Chico's or something with Chico's in the name.

The first one may be Mauricio's and the second Chico's Paradise.
There are so many wonderful restaurants in PV from taco stands to fine dining. What kind of food do you want and what is your price range?

Will be in Grand Mayan NV during the week of new years with two families with adult age kids in the early 20s. Any reasonable restaurant suggestions - we like Mexican, seafood, anything really. Would prefer suggestions within walking distance of the Grand. Also, we will likely go into PV one day to visit, walk along the Malecon and have dinner. Any suggestions on a restaurant downtown to eat?

Thanks

Joyce

There are over 1400 restaurants in PV......kind of need more specifics.

If you are looking at options in NV, not far from Mayan resorts or a very short cab ride then you can go to Fajita Republic in NV, it is just down and across from Grand Velas. Extensive menu. I have a pending review of it over on trip advisor ( though I have different name on there, but my review would be from Nov 14-21, 2008.

Also Guido's is an Italian rest. in NV just around the corner and across from Mayan Sea Garden entrance.

Nopal Beach is a sidewalk type cafe restaurant with a good menu and reasonable prices, serves breakfast, lunch and dinner 7 days a week. Go out Mayan Sea Garden entrance take a left and then up and around curve towards marina on opposite side of Mayan property. You could walk it...not too far or take golf cart to Sea Garden entrance and then walk from there.

Then there is also Estudio Cafe on the water overlooking marina. If you are at Guido's looking towards water, look for yellow bldg. on kitty corner to right. Like a five minute walk form Sea Garden Entrance. On Mondays they alternate between Shrimp Sonora and Cocnut Shrimp. If it is Coconut shrimp monday, you should make a reservation. Last Jan the prices for this were 110 pesos, and it includes soup. They have a special every evening. Closed Sundays.

I have a new review over on TA, dated Nov 14-21, 2008. Changes to Mayan, you may want to read. Not Grand Mayan but will give you an idea of our vacation at Mayan recently, which by the way was great.

You can also get a cheap cab and head over to Paradise Village Mall where there a quite a few restaurants, Brazil Steakhouse, Jungle, many others including Dominoes and McDonalds LOL.

We also really like
Robertos downtown PV on Basillo Badillo No view but great food. (Seafood etc full menu)

We ate a great Thanksgiving dinner at El Dorado on the Beach in old town.
It was on the beach and had a beautiful view

Marina Vallarta Rincon de Buenos Aires Great steaks Argentinean Steak house.

Downtown PV very reasonable and good Cafe de Olla

On the Malecon for Italian La Dolce is excellent

We had a great meal at La Laguna's, which is about a mile south of the entrance to the Grupo Mayan property. It does not look like much from the outside, but the food is great and prices reasonable. Ask the bellmen for a cab. Ride is no more than 50 pesos each way.

Downtown, maybe two blocks from the Municipal Pier is La Palapa. Great food and reputation. The tables are right on the beach.

Have fun!

We went to the Ricon Buenos Aires for Thanksgiving. The food was great. I picked up their little business card / flyer, and on the back side was LaPortena in Nuevo. We saw it on the road to the highway when taking the taxi to Buenos Aires. It is across the street from the OXXO store. We did not get to check it out, but would certainly be worth a try. It would save a LOT in taxi fare. The food at the GM is very good, and when you factor in $40 RT taxi fare, it is much cheaper than going into PV. Our "kids" went to Chasers above the OXXO on Monday night and said the steak there was better than what they get in Kansas City.

Bucerias is also a good choice. We like one one of the restaurants in kind of the middle of the "restaurant row". El C something. The bacon wrapped shrimp (without the special sauce/gravy) is excellent. $80 pesos for 5 beers.

We are at El Andreigao right now (across from the Sr. Frog store as you cross the bridge from the Sheraton). The food is fantastic, and they have free WIFI.

I also like Chino's in the mountains. It is similar to Chico's. It is also the place where you end up if you take the Zipline tour.

Thank everyone for their suggestions. Since I have only been to PV one time previously and stayed at the Crown Paradise - which was an all inclusive - we never got to eat out - thus don't have the lay of the land. We went downtown one afternoon and walked along the Malecon and shopped I think in the Romantic Zone - but this was only for a few hrs.

Yes, I agree it would be better to eat in Nuevo Vallarta instead of spending $40 in cab fares for a meal in PV every night. I would get a car - but my hubby does not do well driving in foreign countries and it is just not worth the stress on him or me. Sounds like Paradise Mall is the place to go for restaurants and to pick up groceries.

Am I correct that there is only an under the counter refrigerator in the 2 BR Grand Mayan units and only a 2 stove burner - no oven. Is it even possible to cook a real dinner in the kitchen - like spaghetti for 6 people????

Thanks,

Joyce

The fridge when we were there I would say was a small apartment size probably 12 cu ft. . My wife said the stove had four burners I dont remember but it was enough to do breakfast and lunch we always went out for dinner. It really is a nice place. But the pool deck is not slick it is rough take shoes or sandals to go from point a to b to protect your feet.

We just left the GM on Saturday - the fridge is the small apartment size and there are 4 burners. We made spaghetti one night for our group of 10. The new Mega store just south of Bucerias is very nice and you can get about anything there. We were able to get fresh ground beef and Classico spaghetti sauce. We also bought breakfast foods and snacks there.

Regarding Pittle's post, we have eaten at La Portena and it is fabulous. One of our favorite places. Great atmosphere, great food and really nice people. I would highly recommend it.
