well, well,
just got a call. sounds real.. says, hey John you have 3 bonus weeks with II that are about to expire and we can rent them out for you. We're from Interval.
You've never registered. That costs $1,499 annually or life 2,499 ( I think)

you guaranteed those weeks rental of $2,100 per week. (coca cola convention) netting me a decent profit.

sounds like a scam to me.

got the number to call back on 404-445-8213, they close at 9 pm est

then supervisor said they handle all of II rentals.

scam or no scam.

100% scam:

II does not permit any of their products to be rented out.

Conventions are at hotels, and they rent hotel rooms.

Once you fork over your money, you will never hear from them again.

But they sound so real. They did not get any of my money. I follow and listen to fellow tuggers;);) OI even mentioned to him I'll log on to my Interval "upgraded" expired platinum account with II and he could point out where my free unused bonus weeks were and he tried. I'm truly amazed at these people.

Thank you.

called right at 8:59, their number 8885096303... which pulls up on google
resortpropertymmt.com
http://www.resortpropertymgmt (dot) com/page.php?id=26

Their website is an advertising, listing site. Very poor website that will never connect buyers with sellers. They don't care. They are in it for the upfront fees they collect.

Their scam is that the website was created only to lure victims. They lie to get credit card numbers. Only after someone pays $1499 do they realize they aren't getting any rental income for their non-existent bonus weeks. What they paid for is their timeshare to be listed for sale on the obscure website.

They have been running their scam for a year. See previous TUG thread on them. They will likely be shut down soon only to resurface under a new name.

If they happen to call again

Let them talk a little and then ask, 'does your mother know you're doing this?'

Sometimes I have a little 'fun' and tell them I'll just give them the timeshare and then they can rent it out for the big bucks they claim. Talk about back-peddling! THEN I ask them the important question (see above). Sometimes I get in a 'take me off your list.'

Yessa!

Nice approach; I like it! Probably helps considerably to shorten the conversation too. :D
I don't get these types of calls anymore and can't say that I miss them. One effective reply I adopted in the past that always helped to shorten the conversation:

"I don't know or much care where you got my name or phone number, but I don't own any timeshares and I haven't owned any timeshare in about eight years now.
You're wasting your time --- and mine --- by calling, so please permanently remove me from your list of contacts".

That always ended the conversation, often with a (insincere) apology for having bothered me. These monkeys generally don't really know what you own or don't own --- they are just working off their "contact list" and script and are generally incapable of thinking "on their feet".

Btw, I always believed (...and still do today) that it was an owner info leak from within RCI that enabled / generated these calls to my unlisted, unpublished number.

That thought has crossed my mind too. Many say that the culprit is some employee at the resort who is trying to make some money on the side by selling owner information. While that is plausible, it raises the question How do scammers know information about owners elsewhere?

We have seen or read reports about scammers who got caught and it was shown that they scammed owners of timeshares all over the country and in other countries. Do they track down employees of resorts all over the country and world in search or owners" information? RCI would have that information rather than resort employees.

But, of course, that is just speculation on my part.

I've addressed my "RCI leak" theory and basis thereof on TUG before, but I'll recap briefly. When I belonged to RCI (no longer) RCI somehow adopted an odd misspelling of my last name. That odd misspelling resulted in my last name being pronounced very differently --- and all of the unsolicited callers used that incorrect pronunciation.

Is this proof that RCI was the info source? Certainly not. Is it just mere coincidence? Unlikely, in my opinion --- RCI was the one and only entity to ever get the last name spelling (and subsequent pronunciation) wrong in that particular fashion. Also, the unsolicited and unwelcome calls stopped completely beginning some months after we chose not to renew our RCI membership. Maybe that's all just several remarkable coincidences, but I've frankly never been a big believer in "coincidence". :ponder:

as college football begins; they call again

this company called yesterday, left message.

I was going to mess with them, then I realize I'm too busy and this a a pain in the ....

I'm in sales. I can be very diplomatic, dismissive and stern should I feel I need to.

Now, after the few Saturday chores I chose to do, I've decided to settle in to NCAA football for the afternoon.

Alas, she calls again. Sir, you must have spelled the wrong name to our company, 'we have a B rating by the Better Business Bureau. We're guaranteeing you $2,100 for each week.

I got partially rude, not enough-possibly, and told not interested , take me off their list -which she said they have no list and their not selling me anything just trying to use my soon to be expiring bonus week with II.

I hung up, no energy for this, and on to football.

thank you tuggers-- I'm not alone.

Well, I just had my first experience with these people, and they hung up on me. It all started when they called my father and told him he was a cosigner on my timeshare loan (he's not). That got me a big lecture from my father about how all timeshares are bad, my grandparents had to pay thousands to get rid of theirs, and it's a good thing my mother didn't answer the phone.

First, the lady who answered the phone was evasive when I was asking who they were and said there must have been a mixup in calling family members. Then, Mr. Robert Hamilton called me back and started to make his pitch about how I was supposed to sign up for the "maintenance free program" when I made my HGVC purchase, and starts going on about renting out 3 weeks of 3 bedroom to pay my maintenance fees (1 week of studio). I told him I was happy with what I had, and asked what reason he had to be calling my father, and that got the hang up.

Clearly, I'm livid. I followed up on the off chance it had something to do with one of my recent resale purchases, but in any case my dad's name isn't associated with any of it. It's one thing for the scammers to be harassing timeshare owners, but to be arbitrarily calling family members is way across the line.
