Resort long range studies question

One of my resorts has reported to have done a long range study, by a resort company expert. I remember reading in the past here that resorts that have them and follow them can be better off. Does anyone know names of industry experts who do this work ? What does the HOA need to look for in the study? Anything to look out for?

Thanks in advance for any replies.:)

Moderator,

Maybe this question would get a reply on one of the other boards? I wasn't sure where to put it as it isn't buy/sell nor trade related.

Thanks

I think this article will answer all of your questions except for names of people who do such studies.

One way to find professional engineers who do such reserve replacement studies locally is to ask other HOAs (including condominium HOAs) in the same community or in nearby large cities. Timeshare and condo management companies - those that manage multiple HOAs - can also make recommendations.

My $0.02 worth...

I don't know if they would be responsive to inquiry, but VRI (Vacation Resorts International) comes immediately to mind as an entity which might utilize (and / or have their own internal) such "experts".

I think of VRI only because of personal (but admittedly limited) observation and experience. I have been consistently impressed with their good judgement in selecting resorts for which they choose to compete for (and maybe subsequently acquire) management company function. I am also equally impressed with their judgement in choosing NOT to become (or sometimes, remain) contractually associated with certain facilities, even when that particular resort genuinely seeks to retain VRI as their management company. This kind of sound judgement and decision making by VRI can't possibly be just accidental or coincidental --- there is clearly some very competent analysis and very good judgement actively at work there. By whom or how (or at what cost) I certainly don't claim to have even a clue, but it might well be worth at least a phone call to inquire...

Just my thoughts, to accept or ignore as you may see fit.... :)

Thanks for the info and suggestions. I still have to read the article.

Do you think Wyndham has internal experts? It's a resort that Wyndham acquired with it's Equivest purchase, but it did not spin it off when it sold most of Equivest to Festiva, probably d/t legal issues.
