Reserving 13 months out right now - options?

Asking on behalf of my father, who is trying to figure out which route to go. He has heard from others that it's basically impossible to get through to Owners Services to reserve his two weeks for 2021 at the 13 month mark. Some of them are apparently resorting to selecting the option online to request the 13-month reservation and have Marriott get back to them. Has anyone gone this route before? I was under the impression that this was a last resort type option, and that you should really just commit to the phone call in order to book your high value units - in this case, Grande Ocean.

There was a period when getting MVC on the phone was very difficult but I've been quite successful getting MVC on the line for the past month or so. That said, I haven't been part of the 9:00AM scrum.

I am on hold right now while my agent is verify something.

My initial hold time was only 5 min.

If anything I'd say the online option carries more risk now than it would have pre-COVID because the reps' workload has increased substantially. It's not a good option for high-demand reservations under the best circumstances; under these ones even less.

I've also had pretty good luck getting through on the phone to Owner Services with minimal wait times. :)

I called right at 9:00 am approximately 3 weeks ago to make 13-month reservations (to include dates at Grande Ocean) and got through immediately. I have also had to call a couple of times since at various times for other reasons and my wait was never more than 6 or 7 minutes. Maybe I just got lucky but I was pleasantly surprised.

Is he trying to book home resort weeks?
You can’t book weeks online at 13 months, you have to book by phone.
You can only book using points at 13 months if you have an eligible Owner benefit level.

True and I have tried that in the past.
It was far quicker and more effective though, for me anyway, just to phone Owner Services rather than wait for more than 24 hours in my case to find out whether or not I got the multi week booking I requested.

Yeah, that’s what I’ve been telling him. If he goes the online route and misses out, I’m never going to let him forget it.

The only way I’d suggest that to him is if I was 100% positive that by submitting the online request, he’d still be able to call in and book the units without being told “sorry, your online request is pending and will be handled by that department when they get to it”.

What do you mean by this statement? Are you saying you can have Marriott call you back in the 13 month booking period when the week you want becomes available? I don't have to keep calling in the dark in hopes of snagging a desired week that inventors was released.?

No, you still have to go online at the 13 month mark, and then you select the option to have Marriott call you back to actually make your reservation.
