I need to talk to someone in Owner Services.... is there a number to reach them directly without going through a reservation specialist? TIA for your help... below is why I want to call...

So... I understand the reason some reservations are being cancelled and appreciate that they are cancelling exchange and guest reservations first to allow owners to vacation, but also see that owners may be cancelled if necessary to achieve desired occupancy rates of 30-50%.

Our situation is that I made a reservation in June 2019 at Towers on the Grove to check in this June (using ARP). On March 31, 2020, I called to ask if the points deposit window was going to be extended for Silver VIP b/c we have an Oct-Sept use year and would need to deposit points that day or lose them. I was told that the situation was “fluid” and could change day by day. They couldn’t seem to understand that I couldn’t wait another day, b/c “my deadline day” was THAT day. Anyway, I waited and watched until that night and finally decided to cancel the June reservation and deposit those points to a future use year. Imagine my surprise (and dismay) when I went to the deposit section on the website and it tells me my deposit window is until the end of my use year (September 30 instead of March 31). I quickly went back to “reservation search” and was delighted that my dates were actually available (that’s a miracle, in itself, that they went back into inventory so quickly), and I once again made my reservation. All good, right?

Well, maybe not. Now, my reservation was made on March 31, 2020, instead of June 26, 2019, which puts us in jeopardy of being cancelled due to occupancy rates. Do you think I have a reasonable chance to call Owner Services and plead my case? Do you think they would possibly consider helping me out in this situation?

This really sucks. I also had a vacation planned for 5/20-5/25 and we canceled before Wyndham did. I wish you Good luck and hope all works out for your situation. Unfortunately Owner services can only do so much to help and are limited in what they can do for you.

I think a lot of owner will stay away during the pandemic so you might be safe. If you do get your reservation cancelled, check Extra Holidays to see if Wyndham is renting the timeframe you want. Since owners come first, anything Wyndham is renting should fall to the bottom. If that's not the case call and ask why Wyndham rentals supersede owner reservations.

I called Towers on the Grove and they connected me with Owner Services. As expected, they were not able to help. Said cancellations would be “computer generated” and emails sent to those being cancelled. So I guess I just have to wait and see what happens.

Good idea... I will keep this in mind. Thanks.

Has anything been communicated as far as the time frame cancellations will be done? At what point do we know we are safe? Is it at 2 months, 2 weeks, or at 2 days?

I read on a FB Forum that some people are getting a cancellation email as early as 3 weeks out. What I’ve been told by people at the resorts and in reservations and owner care is 1-2 weeks prior to check-in date. I’ve also read that some people are getting an email confirming a reservation to let the owner know they will not be cancelled. So... doesn’t seem like a specific timeframe has been set.

I've read that there can be cancellation emails, confirmation emails and no email though marked as a cancellation (info obtained from calling the resort.) Perhaps a Magic 8 ball might come in handy? :)

Forget about the magic 8 ball. I hear a Ouija Board is much more accurate.

I also cancelled a stay in Panama City before Wyndham did for mid June that I made like 10 months ago and moved it to early August. What makes it even worse is that we didn't get a vacation in 2019 because of a scheduling nightmare of my daughter's band camp and her needing to take health class as summer school.

I hope your August vacation works out for you. This will be our third year of going to Glacier Canyon in late July to early August with our son and his family. Our DIL teaches and one of our granddaughters is in school. I've asked our son if he thinks the schools in Ohio will go back at the beginning of August this year because they missed so much this school year. So we are waiting to see what the school start date is.

When our son was in preschool and grade school many of our friends had kids who were in high school and college. We used to think they were just being ridiculous when they would say there was only a single week in the entire summer that they could vacation. Our turn eventually came. In our school district if you took band and wanted to be able to take an elective then you had to take summer gym class. He was also on the tennis team throughout high school and you were expected to play in the summer leagues if you wanted to remain on the team. The summer he was 16 was our last summer family vacation for the next few years because he also got a job being a caddy at the country club.

They don't really do anything over the summer anymore in FL, there's no funding for it. The only summer programs we have are for the Algebra 1 EOC (if they failed it), Kindergarten (if the kid still can't do phonics), or 3rd grade (if the kid still can't read). Kids can now take there classes on Florida Virtual. A lot of my 11th graders take their English and Economics online so they can graduate at the end of 11th instead of the end of 12th.

I got an email today that my Towers on the Grove reservation for June 6 Check-in was cancelled. I actually had two 1 BR booked and they only cancelled one. I just cancelled the other one as we were a family of 5 going and needed the two units.

I say give it a try. I added an extra day onto a Wordmark Spring Break vacation and they changed my rsvp date from 13 months prior to a month prior. When I checked in, at Indio, although units are all nice, there are more convenient locations than others. It was obvious when showing me the building site on their little map, that it was not chosen based on the original date. I brought it up and they did a work around and got us a better location.

Luckily they have moved the Health course online for incoming Freshman who are in band so that won't affect us once my son is a Freshman. Both of my kids have attended the same summer day camps and this was the first year that my daughter was going to get paid to be a counselor and my son would be a volunteer junior counselor. That camp got cancelled for the first time in 40 some odd years. We have been just waiting for warm weather to hit so we can at least use our pool. That is about the only thing the kids have to look forward to at this point.

How does Wyndham know if you actually received a cancellation notice email? What happens if someone shows up at a resort after their reservation is cancelled? I doubt they will be turned away if they can produce a copy of the reservation confirmation.

I received an email yesterday and it was followed up by a robo call today. Still doesn't mean that someone might miss the notification.

How is 1-2 weeks prior to check-in fair? I have a vacation for late July/early August that requires air travel (Great Smokies Lodge)... a 1-2 week notification isn't much time to change my vacation plans. Don't they have enough resources RIGHT NOW to figure out which reservations will be impacted for the remainder of the year?

Also, another post mentioned that cancellations were "computer generated". I understand that exchanges and guest reservations will be cancelled first, but any word on how further cancellations will be determined? Earliest reservations are kept? Random roll of the dice?

The airlines are being very flexible in waiving their cancellation/change fees. And since fewer people are flying it's not too hard to change a reservation.

Yes I did see that. If I need to cancel they will provide credit towards another flight. Other posts indicate that reservations made more recently will be cancelled before reservations made more in advance. I booked my trip in October, pretty much right at the 10 month window... I hope that's good enough.

On May 20, I got a reservation confirmation from Wyndham, for my check in on June 5th, in Destin Florida. What a relief that was, after having three other reservations cancelled.

Resorts like Beach Street Cottages are stand alone cottages with an upstairs and downstairs unit. A resort like this doesn't need a unit social distancing because they are separate buildings.

My daughter's reservation for Bonnet Creek June 6-13 was cancelled yesterday. Can't believe that a resort that huge could not accommodate everyone that did not cancel. She was pretty upset but was able to get another place. Of course she had to pay for the week and my guest reservation was free to her.

Doesn't seem right. Maybe these rentals are scams, but not all of them can be. There are plenty more for June. So much for owners first.
