Reservations at Parks?

I haven't used my DVC points in a few years, but am planning a kids gkids vacation this year.
Do you REALLY still have to reserve a park? I understand post COBID, but seems like now disney not so much in demand. Anyone ever made a ressie and not been able to get into a park? Well just go to Universal....

I think the Disney policy changed this year. If you are an annual passholder, you still have to make reservations in advance. Single- and multi-day ticket holders do not need advance reservations. In addition, they also have “good to go days” that also exemp annual passholders. .

But it’s really not a big deal. We’ve made advance reservations, and then changed them to a different park if we changed our mind on the morning we were going to the parks. It matters maybe only on days like New Year’s Eve

Park reservations now only apply to Annual Pass holders and there are now a lot of "Good to Go Days" where we AP holders don't need a reservation. We also often go after 2PM, so no reservation needed there either. If you are just buying multi-day tickets, reservations don't apply to you.

Date based tickets (which are the majority) do not require reservations. Annual Passholders and some other specialty or legacy tickets do.

However, important to note, reservations are not hard to get, at all, and are not hard to change at the last minute, even during the busiest times of year.

While I agree in general, I have seen MK and to a lesser extent HS disappear on busy weekends surrounding Presidents Week, Easter/Spring Break, and the weeks leading up to Christmas/NYE. And of course 5/4 at HS.

The night time parade at Magic Kingdom starts 20 (?) July 2025 so that has affected Annual Pass reservations anyway.

The best way to look at it, reservations are only for your first park of the day. With Magic Kingdom's new parade, if your first park will be MK, yes you must have a reservation. But, you can easily make a reservation at, say, EPCOT, enter there, immediately turn around, hop on the monorail, and head to MK. As a WDW CM, we also are required to have a reservation, it's actually a good thing because - before COVID19 - parks frequently had to close due to being at capacity. This way, WDW can plan it out.
