Renting Points - Trust vs. Exchange Co.

At a recent sales presentation, I was told that points that are rented from another owner will always be treated as Exchange Co. points regardless of their original designation. Getting to that answer took a lot of very pointed questions and ultimately involved a manager calling someone to confirm, so I think I got the correct answer.

My question is - if that is the case, why do people renting points make the distinction as to the source of their points since it seemingly doesn't matter?

Thanks for any and all insights.

This is possible. I suppose before points can be transferred from a trust owner to another owner (trust or legacy), they first have to be placed in the exchange company. It would make sense. I think that a VOA would really have to confirm this.

I think since most of the points that have been rented so far are legacy points, those will always be in the exchange company. I don't think we have had a situation where a trust owner has rented to a legacy owner.

Of course it is possible the sales rep was just trying to get you to buy those "prized" trust points by indicating there is no other way to get true trust inventory unless you buy.

I would be very very surprised if Trust points didn't transfer over as Trust points.

I'd be shocked - I'll try to test this with a Trust Points owner.

Thx

Glancing through the Trust Multi-site POS documentation, I couldn't find any reference to transferring points. Of course this is a document of over 275 pages, so I could have missed something. There is of course reference to the exchange procedures and the exchange company. We know that the exchange procedures have text in them that details transferring points between owners for one time use.

I think a real test would be required to substantiate this, but I think it is possible to go either way.
