Hi All,

I have been researching Marriott Vacation Club Points for a little bit now. I have been seeing many pros and cons of the programs, and one major con seems to be the yearly point fees. I was wondering if anyone with Marriott Vacation Club Points have experience 'renting' or 'selling' a vacation booked with points on sites like this one or VRBO. This seems to be a way to offset some of the yearly rental fees, but I am not sure if it is allowed, or easy to sell to someone a week of vacation time with the program.

Thank you! I appreciate the help!

The site suggested to me by a MVC salesman was Vacationcandy.com
I have no personal experience renting out weeks or points

People rent their DC reserved weeks, but not sure how "worth it" it is or hard/easy it is. AFAIK this is not prohibited by MVC.

Hi cpwill, welcome to TUG!

Yes, Marriott specifically allows owners of their Weeks and Destination Club Points products to rent intervals that have been booked using their owned Weeks/Points, with some intervals being practically guaranteed to make a profit and others worth nothing in the rental market. In addition to an owner securing high-demand intervals for rentals, though, there are also variances among the yearly MF's (based on the particular Weeks that are owned or whether the DC Points are purchased Trust Points or elected Exchange Points from enrolled Weeks) that will impact the profit margin. I'm sure you'll get plenty of information from the helpful folks here who have successfully been renting their Marriott ownerships for years. If you're far enough along in the process that you are already aware of your purchase method/price, it might help to offer that info. These are the two rental sites which are mentioned in both the Weeks and DC Points FAQS in this TUG Marriott forum:
  • VacationPointExchange.com developed by TUGgers GregT and StevenTing shortly after the DC introduction
  • Ownertrades.com developed by TUGger Clark in 2001, expanded to include DC Points resales/rentals following the DC establishment

Moderator Note: I've moved your thread from the Exchanging forum (possibly meant to be placed in the Buying, Selling & Renting forum?) to the Marriott forum so that it will get more exposure from Marriott owners/members.

This issue comes up from time to time. I would never buy with the long term plan to rent. It's nice to have the option when you need to for a given year or short term. But it's just too risky and the returns aren't there long term to justify paying more just for that reason IMO.

You may want to check out the recent thread in the Buying, Selling & Renting forum titled Side Hustle/Extra Income. It isn't specific to Marriott but gives different perspectives on renting in general.
