We were solicited by a company called Owners Accommodations to buy 6 Getaways from our Interval membership and have them rent the Getaway weeks to companies holding conferences in Orlando, where they are located. They "guarantee" to rent the weeks for $2000 each within 90 days. So the return to us would be $ 12,000 minus the cost of the Getaways [$ 399 each], netting $ 9600 to us. Since the Getaways are timeshares, the renter has to attend a timeshare presentation. The company [Owners Accommodations] is paid a " finders fee" by the timeshare company, plus if a renter buys a timeshare, they get a commission.
I searched the web for any scam reports or complaints and found none.
Has anybody else had this pitch? Anyone actually done this? It sounds too good to be true but the company is legit and does rent timeshares to the general public. Any further information would be appreciated.

I would be careful about the statements you make. On what basis do you believe this company is legit?

This is a scam. It pops up every 3-4 months on various forums here with different company names all making the same offer. Some previous discussions here. Even if the company were somehow legit, renting Getaway weeks is not and is explicitly against the Ts&Cs of Interval.

Slight correction; more like every 3-4 days. They've been popping up a lot recently.

First time I've heard of a finders fee and commission when the alleged renter attends a mandatory presentation with these scams, what a whopper of a lie that is!

The reason why you couldn’t find any dirt on them is because they are brand new. They do have a corporate entity and that was created only in January 2023. Their website was created February 2023. The correct business is owneraccommodation dot com.

I’ve said a million times before that this business model is common for scammers. The scammers create the business name and website ONLY to make it appear that they are providing services. That service, despite the guaranteed getaway lies on the cold call to obtain credit cards, is supposedly marketing services to advertise your timeshare. However, that end of the business is a complete sham. All they really do is collect upfront fees. Their website is useless for anyone looking to rent. By the way, I couldn’t find their website by googling their name. I had to guess on the web address and type iit exactly in order for me to find it. If I had trouble finding it so would potential renters.

As someone else posted, these “companies” pop up constantly. They also all use the getaway lies on the cold call. They do it because it has proven to be effective to obtain credit card info. The “marketing” wnd of the website then keeps them out of jail because they simply claim that they are providing services for the upfront fee, not stealing upfront fees. This is despite the fact that they do NOTHING for marketing. They all like to also claim that they attend events around the country promoting your timeshare you paid them to advertise. However, I have never, even once, found any of these scammer companies on a list of exhibitors. Just another lie. People need to file complaints with the state Attorney General. While that is good in the short term, long term the scammer just starts again with another website.

The fact that this company is specifically asking you do to something that very clearly prohibited by Interval should be enough to stop anyone from using them.

Thanks for all your responses. Clearly a scam, and very deceptive. I had no idea this was so widespread.

@dahntahn
And please do not answer phone calls from numbers you don't recognize. If it's important, they will leave a message.
Block the number they called from.

Here's a link to the same/similar scam reported on Friday.

I received a similar call to the one above a couple years ago. Being new to the time share game I was intrigued. In this case they were going to rent out my actual HRC booking, and had nothing to do with interval. The sales pitch did not include any sort of accent that your typical anti-virus calls seem to have. And they knew my number and who I was. I was actually on vacation at the time they called and had no intention of going back to the room to take care of this. When she insisted it was now or never that kind of raised my eyebrows a bit. I told her to call me back next week when I was home. They never called and honestly I hadn't thought about this since reading this post. It made me think it was a scam, but they also seemed to know a lot about what I owned too.
