Renting a timeshare out for special events

We have a points-based timeshare with Grandview in LV. We can't really make use of the timeshare right now, so we've been thinking about renting it out.

So far, it appears that timeshare rentals tend to be flexible. What we'd like to do is use our points to reserve units during special events (NASCAR, PGA tour, etc), then rent out out reservation for the event.

Is this feasible? Has anybody tried it?

Thanks in advance for the assistance.

Once owned these: FirstFairway@Walden X 2; Lawai Beach; ManhattanClub; PuebloBonitoRose; 4 South Africa--now timeshare-free
It can't hurt to give it a try. Be prepared to maybe use it yourself if you aren't able to rent it out. You'll have a lot of competition including RCI Extra Vacations where Grandview rentals often appear at bargain prices.

You can't use your points to reserve units through RCI and then rent them out. You can only use your deeded week to rent out. If your resort allows you to reserve 2 split weeks Fri-Mon (3 nts) and Mon-Fri (4 nts) you can also rent that out.

Easier Said Than Done. (Then Again, Isn't Everything?)

The weenie is that if you use your Grandview points to get a Grandview reservation, then that's an RCI reservation. By rule, renting out RCI reservations is not permitted -- even when the reservation is for exchanging back into your own timeshare.

Renting out your own deeded time at Grandview (instead of taking the points) is OK -- but as stated your rental offers will be in competition with RCI Last Call & Extra Vacation offerings.

Full Disclosure: We were at Grandview At Las Vegas last week on RCI Last Call. Had a wonderful time.
