Hertz affiliate has a scam going where you rent a car and they claim to be sold out when you get there.
Witnessed this in person and then read about this on Yelp and other sites as happening in the past.

Be sure and have a backup reservation elsewhere!

Tried to complain to Hertz USA about their brand partner in Mexico but they never followed up either.

I believe this may be going on everywhere, including the USA. Rental cars are currently scarce and the rates appear to be changing daily.

There is a thread in the Hawaii Forum which is discussing this rental car situation.

I am not sure it's an actual scam or more renters than cars available.
