rental adv. where? ebay? paper?

i have a question.

I have a 2br ko'olina week (prime week when there is a special event on the island) and i want to know where i can get the most interested parties to notice.

i thought of EBAY BUT when i checked on timeshare rentals, there was not one bid on any of the actions that were listed.

so where do people adv. thier timesahres. And yes i know there are agents but i am weary of them. some seem like scams, others i have no idea.

Now marriott does do rentals, but charge 1/2 of the income... which is far far to high in commision.

nay help/suggestions would be nhelpfull

When looking for rentals, I go to ebay first to see if I could scoop up something cheap. So if you're trying to get a higher rent, I wouldn't recommend ebay.

The usual recommendations are www.redweek.com, www.bidshares.com, www.myresortnetwork.com.

There are numerous threads on this subject in this forum. I would suggest searching the TUG boards for keywords such as "where to advertise rental".

Craig's List

We've had some success renting out our timeshare via (free) Internet advertisements on Craig's List.

Craig's List has a Honolulu section that seems appropriate for any part of Hawaii.

In the housing category, there's a Vacation Rentals subcategory.

That's what we used in the Craig's List Orlando FL section to rent out our Orlando timeshare once last year & again this year.

The only other time we rented out a timeshare, we used the advertising section of TUG.

Advertising on Craig's List is free & it's set up to let you place up to 4 color digital pictures on each ad. We downloaded 4 of the most attractive pictures from our timeshare resort's web site & used those in our Craig's List timeshare rental ad.

You may actually find that Marriott's net rent, after taking 50% plus a tidy fee, isn't much different from what you can rent for.

Marriott has the advertising and marketing clout, the name, the reputation, etc. Almost everyone knows they can go to Marriott's website and make a reservation. Further, they can usually cancel only a day or two before scheduled check-in without penalty.

On the other hand, you don't have those attractive features. You'll (1) likely (as most of us do) make your rent nonrefundable, you'll (2) have to hope someone who is serious about renting sees your ad, you'll (3) have to convince a renter that your offering isn't fraudulent and that you really have access to the week you are offering and you'll (4) have the challenge of negotiation, getting the rent paid and tailoring a rental contract and getting it signed.

Thus, the only thing you can offer is a much lower rent. Although you should be able to command something in the range of 65% or so of what Marriott offers the same week for, there's no assurance of that.

I notice that many ads on various rental/sale sites seem to use photos downloaded from another site--the resort website, RCI directory, etc. I often see the same image whenever I look at different ads for my own resort.

Are there any kinds of copyright restrictions on this sort of downloading?

I am preparing advertisements for one property we hope to sell and another we may want to rent someday. I do not have any personal pictures of either resort, so I would like to download some pictures as decribed above. Any problems doing this?
