I would think the developers would like this just fine..it will help them sell more.
Wyndham sales people , for example, will convince someone to buy more points by saying; "you can vacation for free, by renting some of your weeks for a profit'
The article you cite would seem to be a good 3rd party endorcement of that idea

Now if the article had mentioned TUG Last Minute Rentals. Unfortunately not everyone can plan a vacation with that short notice but if they can, then people could see a huge savings.
