Hi, we have a unit booked at each of these resorts coming up. Does anyone know if either resort has had recent renovations? We've stayed in the past at HP but never at SP. Also any building/unit recommendations for Sunset Pointe? I see the map but wasn't sure the placement of units and which building might give better views...Sunset or Marsh. Thanks so much!!

Harbour Pointe units have been renovated and they’re very nice. I’ve toured them and was very impressed. Not sure about Sunset Point but I’d wager they have too, or will soon. Google Harbour Pointe and you should see a “photos” link on the right side... click on those for a wonderful review of the changes.

I used an AC at Sunset Point in February just before the pandemic. I was very disappointed with the unit. It was dated with old appliances and furniture. The master bathroom shower was very ugly and old. The second bathroom was very dated as well to the point that I kept that bathroom door closed the entire week. I don't remember which building I was in, but it was next to the bike rentals. Renovations were going on for roof repairs at the time and parking was horrendous. It rained most of the week. I would not stay there again. HHH has too many other Marriotts that are much better.

Thank you both for your input! We’ve stayed at HP several times and always enjoyed it. I’m sorry to hear the Sunset Pointe unit was so disappointing. We have one unit booked at each place for family during the same week coming up. Not sure what to do at this point other than look for a retrade into HP for the exact dates I need giving us two units there. Or I might have to take my chances with the Sunset Pointe unit and hope for a good one.

Sunset Pointe was refurbished three years ago and is quite nice. Ask for the Sunset building, top floor.... all the units have marsh and sunset views. The roof repair the previous poster mentioned was not a repair, it was a complete replacement from a tile roof to a metal roof on all three Harbour Point buildings. This should all be completed by now.

The roofing project for Harbour Point is ongoing. They are mainly working on the Osprey Building now.

In terms of Sunset Pointe I would recommend the Sunset Building. ice views of the marsh and great views of the sunset.

I'd call the resort and try to figure out the unit # you exchanged to. That way if it's in the Pelican building, you'll know you'll be quite a ways away. Also if in the Pelican building and it's a D units, you'll know your views are likely to be no better than SP and it'll be a smaller unit. For me if it were a D unit, I'd keep the SP and try to get another there. If it's in the Pelican, but an A or B unit, you'll have to decide how important it is to be closer. Even if you retrade to HP for both, the fixed week situation there makes it very possible you won't be in the same unit. HP tends to give you the exact unit of the exchange since it's a fixed week/fixed unit resort.

I own at both Harbour Point and Sunset Pointe. There is lots of flexibility in unit location when you trade in..... I always make my request two weeks out as to where I want be located. (I always deposit my weeks in II and trade back in for a different season or use points.) The only time you would be moved is if the owner of the week of that particular unit wanted to stay there.

I just found the resort map. When I stayed at Sunset Point back in February, the building was Sunset Point Sunset, next to the bike rental. I was on the top floor next to the elevator. That unit has definitely not been renovated. I had a view of one pool and the marsh.

That has not been my experience during busier times but maybe your info is newer than mine. I'd simply call and ask the resort.

This is all great info! I will call two weeks ahead to make requests. We aren’t too worried about the units being close together. We have a group of 6 and will use one as our main unit for food and hanging out and the other unit will just be for extra sleeping space. We don’t like to make anyone sleep on the pull outs so we booked it so everyone can have a bed. The pictures are very helpful too. Excellent info. Thanks all so much!!

Ok, as long as you're fine with the dated bathrooms and kitchen, you'll be ok. I only saw that the unit had been painted. For me, those areas were not up to Marriott standards that I'm used to when vacationing. I was disappointed with the unit. Since the resort is very small, the walk to the amenities is pretty easy. Hopefully, the parking has improved. There were many trucks blocking much of the parking areas.

When we stayed at Harbour Pointe in May 2019, we really enjoyed the location on the Marsh. We walked to the restaurants one evening and used the beach shuttle to access the ocean. It was a lovely stay.

The marshland side of the island is spectacular, visually, and the easy access to the Marina Boardwalk for restaurants, bars, shops is a bonus. The beach is an easy bike ride over and the beach access for Harbor Point folks is a beach bar!

It's interesting how different people see this issue. To me it's basically just a dirty pond in that area. I don't like the location and I don't think HP is up to MVC standards so I likely won't be staying there unless I'm stuck. I used to own a week (35) there for trading purposes and IMO, it didn't trade as well as I needed to either like to GO during late June or July.

I enjoy it here at Harbour Point/Sunset Pointe. It’s well located mid-Island, convenient to activities on both the north and south ends of the island. It’s an easy walk to dinner at either the marina or town center. And, I think looking out on Broad Creek is beautiful: dolphins playing in the morning and amazing sunsets. There’s a lot to like here, at a great value.

Don't tell anyone, but......
We too enjoy Harbour Point for extra spontaneous Hilton Head stays whenever our beloved Grande Ocean or Barony are sold out.
The availability is usually there, not always, but we find the units to be attractive and very comfortable, especially after the renovations.
And the DC Points required are truly a steal and perhaps still a well-kept secret (?)..... Shhhhhhhh.
The units are not as large or elaborate as at Grande Ocean or Barony, but again they are more than adequate.
The restaurants in the immediate area are very good, too---so you're not missing much at all......
in fact, a few of our favorites are there, such as the walkable Ela's, Bistro 17, Jane Bistro, French Bakery, and Poseidon's.
And just a 1-minute drive away are several amazing spots like Santa Fe (my #1 favorite on the island), Sea Grass Grille, Alexander's,
Giuseppe's, and Lucky Rooster.

The views of the marsh and inland waterway are vastly different, which we find to be a very pleasant thing, and they are equally beautiful,
teeming with wildlife and interesting small craft activity along the waterway. It's quiet and peaceful there.
We particularly enjoy the walks along Shelter Cove Marina and over to Shelter Cove Towne Center....
The winding paths are quite nice and we love the shaded, canopied trees along the way.
We especially love visiting the French Bakery for early morning coffee and/or breakfast, and just hanging out a while.
We've had many memorable long weekends there at Harbour Point, and will continue doing so.
It's definitely a different vibe along the waterway, but a great one.

Harbour/Sunset Point remind me of MVC timeshares in the early days. It is more like staying in a well located condo rather than an expensive resort. All of the facilities are nice, but it is less expensive due to fewer activities and lower overhead. The addition of extensive resort features, activities, and associated staff are a primary driver of the increase in MF's at most MVC resorts. This resort is great for off season stays when beach and pools are less important. The only downside is the smaller 2nd BR with two twin beds.

For the A/B units in the winter the fireplace is nice but for winter we prefer the ocean front options for the view. The A/B units aren't that small but the twins in the second BR is limiting, same for Monarch.
