I called the Club yesterday and found out that they added a new option to the club for 2012 - will be in the new member guide when we get it. You can put any remaining unused rescued points into RCI and use them the following year for RCI exchange reservations. The great news is they decided to offer this to members now - so if you have any rescued points remaining this year, you can deposit them to RCI for $84.00. You have to call for this - it is not on line yet.

This makes sense since a direct rescue to RCI is good for two years.
So now a rescue to your HGVC account can mimic the same RCI rescue.

But then, it also nets HGVC another round of fees for very little cost.

Yes, this is in the 2012 Members guide.

Quote from the guide

On or before December 31, 2012. Members may deposit to RCI any remaining "rescued" Points for RCI weekly and nightly exchange reservations for travel in 2013. An RCI deposit fee applies. Rescued Points deposited into RCI are valid from the date of deposit through an additional calendar year.

HGVC has a program that allows you to donate unused points which get pooled and converted into vacations for military families. That's where my unused points went and I didn't have to pay a fee for the privilege of doing it. Call member services and they will direct you on how to do it if you're interested.
