So I stopped by my Lowe's store today to buy a new refrigerator as a replacement to the one I have had for so many years.

The sales staff told me that most models are out of stock due to the Corona Virus (plant shutdowns) and I might be able to get one by October 1st (hopefully this year).

They did have a few makes, and models available, but not the size and color I really need or want.

That said, if you are planning a kitchen renovation be sure to order your new refrigerator at least two to three months in advance. Good luck to anyone who has to replace their existing refrigerator immediately due to a mechanical breakdown.

My neighbor said the same re freezers at Lowe’s.. I told him to try to order on line elsewhere if possible.

I am so happy I went into survival mode right after the grocery shortages and bought a Small cheap chest freezer at Lowe’s.

My sister and her husband own a small appliance store. In April, Whirlpool (their main supplier) had most freezers on backorder until August. I'm sure the big box stores had more inventory in their warehouses, but it looks like those are running out as well.

Home Depot has fridges on line available. I saw one available to deliver on 7/16 and another 9/26 for example.

Whether or not they are what someone might want or at the price they want is another story.

But yeah- if you need one immediately might have to get a cheap small one or something like that until you can get a bigger one.

I wonder what will happen with the homes being built here in terms of this issue.

We ordered one online in early May through Costco, and they said we should get it in about a week. I think what they meant is that it would ship from the LG factory in, I'm guessing, South Korea, because we didn't get it until about four weeks later....and had to do a lot of calling to figure out where it was when, before getting to us.

Luckily, it wasn’t a mechanical issue—food was still cold and frozen—but portions of the freezer (it was a bottom-freezer) were literally falling apart due to plastic fatigue. We’d owned it since buying our house in 2004, so it had a good run. Like a Toyota, the refrigerator was falling apart around the compressor, LOL!

Our backup refrigerator took a dump about three weeks ago. The compressor seized up and the motor burned up. Scarred the bejeezus out of us to go out in the sun room and smelling SMOKE! It was definitely electrical, but could not directly identify the source, so I killed the breakers for the entire sunroom.

Fortunately, we have a chest freezer in the garage, so I was able to move the contents of the freezer there.

We only lost about $25 worth of stuff, so we were lucky.

Well I went back to Lowe's today and my spouse agreed to a "lessor" refrigerator model which may appear sometime in late August or early September. I am not holding my breath.....

We placed the order and will keep our fingers crossed that our current refrigerator does not kick the bucket in the meantime......

My oven has been broken since SIP. We have managed with a smaller counter top oven.
