Recommendations for shows in NYC?

Hi- we'll be there for husband's business trip FEb 24-March 2- which shows are especially good? Is it worth while to try to get tickets to the Book of Mormons?

I though Book of Mormon was hysterical - but it's definitely not for everyone. It's vulgar, profane, obscene...but I expected that, so no big deal (I love South Park).

For feel good, stand up and wave a lighter over your head fun - Rock of Ages is my favorite. I see it every year and never tire of it! You'll be singing at the top of your lungs the entire show

Oh- one other thing about Book of Mormon. I got our tickets on Broadway Box and had the WORST seats in the house...but the Eugene O'Neill theater is so small that they weren't that bad at all.

More information regarding the interests and dis-interests of the theatre-goers is needed before specific plays can be suggested. If you have no preference, play theatre-roulette and hit up TKTS for any good seat in your price range.

I loved Jersey Boys. Couldn't get it when I was there is 2009. Glad I was patient and saw it in 2011.

We saw Jersey Boys a few years ago and loved it. think we would like The Book of Mormon- how much were those worst tickets? I don't think I'd spring for $200.???

Did two Jimmy Fallon shows. FREE. Try writing in for tickets otherwise you will have to do the free ticket route at the NBC store in the 8-8:30AM day of show. Come back at around 4PM for the positioning in line (based on earlier AM ticket number). If you get into the studio, you will be out by 6:30-6:45P.

I was not a fan of Fallon before hand. Will watch him it I can't sleep now. Get experience as to how they film a LIVE show; Roots band is great; Fallon is a very good act. JMHO.

Did Jersey Boys also - good show.

We were in NYC for a week in September. We saw Book of Mormon, Wicked, and War Horse, for a true Broadway trifecta. A comedy-farce, a classic musical, and a serious drama. All three were great, but War Horse was absolutely the most awe-inspiring theater experience I've ever had. (And I do love me some theater.)

I'd see any of them again, but if you want true Broadway theater, War Horse wins my vote. Steven Spielberg has made a movie of it, which is coming out Christmas Day. The previews look great, but it's a very different experience than what you'll see on stage. Anyone visiting NYC in the near future should see this play, regardless of cost.

Opera and the magic surrounding a major production is also a neat adventure. Yes, I have done Lincoln Center. And I also have been to productions in Vienna and Prague. Took my BFF to Prague against his will and by promising him he would not have to go to a opera in Budapest. We did a tour of the Budapest Opera House a week later; told me NOW he would go to a real show there as he learned alot about "this ain't no TV/Movie" production.

Oh, he thought the digital dot sign boards above the stage in Prague, would translate the opera into English. :hysterical: Told him "No, the opera will be sung in Italian and it would be translated into Czech". My guess was that was his first opera. And what a great way to experience the culture in any city of the world.

We're going up the second weekend in December and have tickets for How to Succeed in Business. Don't remember all the details, but it has a pretty good cast. Played in the pit orchestra in high school 30+ years ago and did the music so I've always had a soft spot for that play. Don't know if it will be there when you are.

How To Succeed in Business Without Really Trying features Daniel Radcliffe aka Harry Potter. Very entertaining and I didn't think he could pull it off but it was fantastic! We actually got our tickets at TKTS that morning.

For anyone interested, there are several places you can get discount tickets- however you won't find tix to Book of Mormon, Wicked, Spider Man, etc.

I like to buy them before I go so I don't have to wait in the TKTS lines and I always use BroadwayBox.com. They offer great discounts for most shows and they have the high demand shows (at a premium) from brokers. That's where I purchased my Book of Mormon tickets. Paid an extra $50/tic

TKTS is awesome but the Times Square location doesn't even open until 2 or 3. The Seaport office opens at 11 (maybe 10, can't remember for sure) so you can get them in the morning without having to go wait in line during the middle of the day. The line is always loooooong but moves quickly.

Goldstar has awesome deals. I always get Yankee tickets and dinner cruises through them at half price. Currently they have Radio City Music Hall Christmas Spectacular at discounted prices.
