A few years ago I ask Marriott if they would put my two Platinum 1 Bd OV TS at the Aruba Ocean Club in their resale program. (since then I have change of idea...)

Still a few weeks ago I received this email:

"Marriott Vacation Club International (MVCI) would like to take this opportunity to extend an offer, at your request, to purchase your Platinum Season, OV View week at Aruba Ocean Club.
The current purchase offer amount per week is $9,100 less $500 in administrative and processing fees. At closing you will net $8,600*. The first year occupancy to MVCI will be 2013.
"

In consequence, it is fair to say that everything sold below $9,100 will be ROFR... :ponder:

What is Marriott selling these units for?
A friend bought a 2BR lock-off a few years ago direct from Marriott for $35K? 38K?

They will make quite a profit on your sale. (I understand u r not selling)

guess they're trying to acquire inventory for the DC program.

I too put in for that program at least two years ago and have never heard a peep from them.

guess they're trying to acquire inventory for the DC program.

I don't think this is the case. Since they are still selling weeks in Aruba, I suspect that they are replenishing their depleted inventory.

I posted about 6 months ago that Marriott bought back my Sabal Palms red (Sabal's term for platinum) week. The price was $11,300 less $500 in administrative (closing) fees. They have been doing quite a bit of this, and the prices they are offering are generally higher than much of the secondary market. They at that time were making offers only to those who were on the list to resell through Marriott. I have not been able to reconcile this with reports that they seldom exercise ROFR (although there is no ROFR at Sabal Palms). My assumption is that they bought back Sabal Palms units for the trust, since it is a sold out resort. I know they also made some offers in the past year for Waiohai weeks, which is also a sold out resort. However, with Aruba still selling weeks I suspect that Dioxide's theory is the reason for buying back Aruba weeks. Either that or they want to acquire weeks in anticipation of adding Aruba to the trust in the future.

The curious thing is that many weeks sold for less than that have not been ROFR'd and I am guessing that will remain unchanged. At its best, ROFR has always been quirky and inconsistent.

Aruba is one place that they may be buying inventory to sell as weeks, maybe for DC inventory, and perhaps more inventory to sustain the rental demand on Marriott.com, which is strong, amongst the highest pricing of the other properties, and frequently sold out. With the SC near sell-out, their inventory is diminished.
