We recently attended a graduation party and one of the X relatives who also attended received a call that his sister's daughter who is about 35 has Covid. It hit her fast and she is now intubated at a hospital in Spokane WA. The call was to let us know that every one was considered exposed by the sister because she was exposed and mingling with every one.

I had thought that to be exposed meant to be around someone who has covid and not some one who was exposed to covid.

You were possibly exposed to COVID two degrees (I think?) away. If you're vaccinated I wouldn't worry about it at all. I think the contract tracing protocols go out a couple of degrees of separation.

Unless I'm not understanding the point.

Guess it depends to what degree. But at a certain point everyone has been exposed to someone who has been in contact with a covid carrier. But 16 months later still lots of cases. I am for more caution then less.

My wife and I are vaccinated. Most of the people over 50 were vaccinated. I doubt that many of the under 50 that attended this event are vaccinated. Many of the under 40 in this group can be vaccinated but seem to think it isn't a priority for them. This includes the girl in the ICU with sars. I really don't get it.

That's sad, and I don't really get it either. But at this point, I don't have much sympathy for someone who contracts Covid that could have been vaccinated by now if they had chosen to do so. Choices have consequences.

I get what your saying and kind of felt that way regarding people I don't know a while back. Now days I do have empathy for all sars affected people and would definitely feel bad if any family members caught sars.

I remember being invincible in my 30's and 40's. It was a fantastic time to be Bill.

As I understand things, there is a period during which someone who is infected can be contagious before the onset of symptoms, but after their own initial exposure. It is possible that the party falls within that window.

We just got our second vaccine dose on Saturday - 1st was Modi AZ on March 30 / 2nd was Springsteen AZ

So now - Covid takes 2nd place to the errant truck tire thru the windshield
and those are nothing you can control / so I got no worries.

I go back and forth on this...while I'm firming in the camp of "if you get COVID right now, save for a VERY small group of people who can't get vaccinated, it's on you and you have it coming to you", I'm also empathetic to those who are ill. It's so preventable at this point. :(

It was sad to hear how a young 35 yo is intubated. That’s an age the which many reports confused the masses for riding through the virus with limited consequences.

However, like all COVID conversations, there are SO MANY missing details. How was the young woman’s health and immune system before getting the virus?

Our daughter is 34. She just had a baby a month ago. She was advised against the vaccine while pregnant. Now she has 2 children under 2 and concerned about the vaccine’s side effects keeping her from taking care of them. The 22 mo is adorable but a complete handful. He’s “busy” every waking moment. As you can imagine, she’s tired physically and emotionally. It’s one more thing in the “mental load” she has to come to terms with.

Decisions over getting the vaccine aren’t easy for everyone. DH and I weren’t first in line when they rolled out. We watched the news from the Functional Medicine website for concerns and evaluating details.

Finding someone to help her out for 24-48 hours of potential side effects is much less onerous than finding someone to take over entirely if she's hospitalized for covid. Is there anyone who can help her find someone who could be on call in case of potential temporary side effects?

Most of the young people I know probably don't even vote or care about politics. I didn't care until I was in my 40's but that is kind of limited to my state and county leadership. I remember when I was young and I doubt that I would be eager to get vaccinated especially if I felt in good health.
