My "boys" (Hubby and 26 yo son) are VERY MUCH into golf. We're traveling to MCV in Phoenix in early March. So, I'm being a good wife/Mom and looking for reasonably priced golf locations anywhere in the greater Phoenix, Mesa, Chandler, Tempe, Surprise, Scottsdale, etc. area. Anyplace I can drive them to will be fine. Of course, they are hoping for morning tee times and have looked on their special golf discount phone app, finding fees well over $100 pp :ignore: - whoa! We're in the midst of a kitchen/family room remodel, which is over budget. So, any suggestions or tips will be GREATLY appreciated! :cheer:

The 'boys' are WELL beyond that age. Period. They are men and can leave the golf clubs HOME (no extra on baggage fees) and take up TENNIS. Or all you can play shuttleboard or go hiking or Spring training baseball games.

But if they MUST PLAY GOLF ... they can get cheaper tee times at Twilight, can't they?

Even Spring Training games are cheaper than that. Wouldn't the whole family enjoy some ballgames ... or do they require the seats behind Home Plate?

I am not going to be in PHX for MLB Spring Training this year...been the last 2 years. The area is crowded with people ... peak tourist time. The courses are just picture pretty and green; crowded with carts and people all day long. The weather is perfect.

www.golfnow.com is generally the most advertised website to find discounted tee times-----I use it ALOT on vacations. I also use teeoff.

That being said, have them play around on www.supremegolf.com. It is a website that looks at multiple golf websites, and lists the deals of all of them.

BUT, keep in mind that it is not constantly updated----so when you see an offer you like, many times it has already been sold, or is no longer available.

Those 3 websites are all in MY FAVORITES----they save me a lot of $MONEY$ :cheer::cheer::cheer:

You'll be there (early March) during the top of the peak season with spring baseball starting up so golf prices are at it's highest. The rack rates for most of the top golf courses in the area are in the $200 range. I have found the so called discount rates that the villas/resorts offer to be much higher than what I can find online using golfnow.com or teeoff.com. Get on teeoff.com's email list and they will send you 20% off promo codes. If your goal is to get the cheapest rates you need to be flexible on where and what time you're willing to play. Afternoon tee times are almost always cheaper than morning tee times but anything after 2pm may be cutting it close to get 18 in. Since you're staying at MCV I would suggest limiting your golf area to Scottsdale and North Phoenix to avoid long drives and the freeways during peak hours. You'll still have plenty of excellent places to choose from.

Papago Park is considered the best public course in Arizona - located near the Phoenix Zoo so two could play golf, two could go to the zoo! Maryvale Golf Course is near Indian School and 51st AVENUE in Phoenix. At last count it was now the Grand Canyon University Golf Course. Both of these courses were under $100. FORE!! There is a military golf course near Luke AFB if there is military association...

I strongly recommend the Papago Golf course. I played it many times when I lived in Phoenix several years ago. It cost $2.00 for 18 holes in the winter and $1.00 in the summer.

Zinger1457: Great suggestion to look in North Phoenix and Scottsdale - as I remember them, the freeways in the greater Phoenix area get crowded early and often! Thanks for adding teeoff.com to the list and for the tip to obtain discount codes!

When was the last time you paid those rates, 50 years ago? :) I agree it's a nice layout and you do have the option of walking which few of the resort courses offer.
