Real People on SBP Board Ballot

We got a SBP Board ballot today for our Palmetto phase property. The meeting is on Oct 28th, so we got it 10 days ahead of the meeting. There were 3 candidates on the ballot for the Board who were not Starwood employees! So we got to vote for 2 of them. They are (I'm paraphrasing their bios):

  Donald Cameron of Ontario, Canada, who manages 8 apartment communities in the greater Toronto area for Morguard, a large real estate company. He's been an owner at SBP for 7 years and owns 4 weeks there.

• 
  Kevin Shelton of Rural Hall, NC, who is the IT Systems Manager for the Forsyth NC County Government. He's been an owner at SBP for 2 years and has "thrown himself into the details of timesharing."

• 
  Anthoni Tiani of the Pittsburgh, PA area. He's currently a store manager for a specialty food company in Pittsburgh with 38 years of retail food experience. He's also a real estate agent. He owns SBP (6 years) and Vistana Villages (5 years).

In full disclosure, my DH applied to be nominated as well. He has an MBA in finance from a top 5 business school and has spent his professional career as a software developer, product manager, CFO of a startup, and Wall Street analyst covering real estate stocks. But he was not selected as one of the top 3 candidates.

I haven't heard of any other properties actively looking for owner-board members -- any idea what makes SBP-Palmetto different?
