Hi everyone - newbie here...
We recently purchased at Cypress Harbour and once our closing was final we were able to reserve a week and then exchange into the Spring Break 2009 that we needed (at Cypress Harbour). Is it possible to re-exchange for a different location (with fees, I assume). If so, how do I search for this on the II website. When I try to look at exchanges it asks me to choose the property but only shows my Cypress Harbour 2010 week.
Thanks in advance.
Theresa

In order to do this you would have to cancel your existing confirmation and doing that will get you a Cancellation Replacment week good for one year from the date you cancel. You can then use that to look for another exchange and you will pay another exchange fee.

What if one wanted to keep their existing reservation until they know they have a suitable exchange? Can II do this on the phone?

An existing Marriott reservation or an existing exchange?

A Marriott reservation at your home resort can be used to place a "Request First" exchange with II. You choose your resorts and dates of travel which can be up to one year before the check in day of your reservation and if you get confirmed only then do you give up your home resort unit.

To check on resort availability of an existing exchange can only be done if you have another unit in your II account that is eligible for exchange. If you found something using another unit you could then cancel your existing exchange and rebook using the other unit providing the trade power of the second unit is sufficient to get the original resort.

If you wait much longer you will be inside Flexchange (59 days) period. If you cancel your trade during Flexchange you will only be issued a week that can be used during Flexchange in the future. Much more limited!

You can do a "re-trade" with II any time you want, but it has to be for a unit that is available on line. You should be able to use your 2010 week to see what's out there, but you'll have to call II to book the exchange. You can also just call them. Any ongoing search will require the advice given by gmarine.

I highly recommend that you do this before it's too late or you will basically have junk to trade with. The replacement week you will get if you cancel will trade far worse the later you wait.

Also, if you cancel the exchange (rather than trading for something that's available while you are on the phone), that replacement week will not have the 24-day Marriott internal exchange priority and will likely have significantly less trading power than your original week, considering how close to Flexchange you are.
