Rent/Sell Deposits/Exchanges policy

Is this policy/rule like the speed limit? It sure appears to me that TS's are being rented all over the place. Are RCI members legally getting around this rule or just driving faster than the posted limit? Jim

I understand the cut and paste rules ....but in reality does RCI actually cut any memberships because members break these rules? It's obvious that people are renting time shares on internet sites and getting guest certificates for the people they rent to. Easy to find on EBAY....so what's the practical nature of doing this..... Has anyone ever heard of a problem with RCI when they rented space to others??

It has happened to two or three tuggers (that were honest enough to admit the fact on the TUG BBS)

I believe they lost their weeks, and were suspended from RCI for a specified time....one could not exchange their WEEKS (a lot, I thnk) via RCI for a period.....(but remember, there are other, independant exchange companies. (Some of them have the same no rent rule)

Maybe someone else will have more specifics

I also recall they were suspended from doing online exchanging after reinstatement. Thus they were forced to do all of their exchanging over the phone, and their accounts were flagged so that when they contacted a VC at RCI, the VC was alerted to look for patterns indicating possible rental activity.

The severity of the reprimands depend on the flagrance of the violations. It normally starts with suspension of online privileges so that a real person can monitor that subscribers activity. Of course there would beaucoup notes on that account.

It does not even taken a violation to draw a suspension of privileges. RCI has determine that an ad placed with the intent of violating the rules is prima facie evidence. That means you don;t even have to actually sell of rent a Spacebanked week or an exchange, just offer to.

I personally know of one TUGger who lost all of their RCI privileges, including exchanges that they had confirmed, and they are no longer allowed to use RCI.

As the Internet made violations easier, and more flagrant, it also made detection easier.

So, yes, it is like traffic violations. Do enough of them, or a serious one, and you will lose your license.

In the past 3 years, over 30 memberships and over 300 confirmations have been cancelled for these violations.

In fairness, RCI has informed members when they are in violation, and given them appropriate time to withdraw their ads.

Some members honestly didn't realize they were violating the terms of membership and just cancelled the ads. End of story.

Some thought they were being clever and simply moved their ads to another website or changed their e-mail account or user name. Dozens of the most popular websites are monitored for this activity, and as soon as the ad(s) appeared on another site, the account(s) in question were suspended, confirmations cancelled (Some members had literally dozens of confirmations cancelled) and in the most flagrant examples entire memberships terminated permanently.

In defense of one TUGger, whom I feel I know fairly well and whom I do not sense to be a nefarious character, she is the one who had her online privileges suspended, without notice or warning, just for placing an ad, without warning.

I have no reason not to believe her account of it. I could say more, but won't, can't really, not publicly.
