Recently attended an "owners update" for my resort by the resort group Celebrity Resorts which was only an RCI Points sales presentation. They presented the following as facts from RCI:

RCI WEEKS Resort Inventory
TRADITIONAL WEEKS MEMBERSHIP
21% of Units are never banked
45% of units are banked less than 90 days from Reservation start
22% of units are banked less than six months from Reservation start date
12% of units are banked one year or more from Reservation start date

this adds up to 100% yet excludes anyone depositing the period between 6 mos and 1 year out??

This was their argument for:
1) look at all the 9000 point (or less) reservations you'll be able to get as everyone deposits late and
2) points are better because everyone commits their weeks to inventory ahead of time so at the opening of any window all the units that will ever be there are there

Madge,
Any comments/confirmation on the above or that 45% of units are banked less than 90 days from Reservation start.

I also was interested in this topic, when are deposits made.

Bootleg responded and it will be interesting to see Madge's reply also.

Well, I have some figures. This took awhile, and I had to eliminate a lot of bulk bankings, since these do not represent member response.

On the average,

3-6 months out - 30%

6-9 months out - 29%

12-18 months out - 30%

18-24 months out - 11%

Now, this is based on several hundred deposits that I checked over the past 4 months.

Members also seem to be creatures of habit. Those that deposit 3 months before the use date seem to do so regularly. Same for the others.

Bulk bankings increase availability for certain resorts at calculable times. The Embassy's, for example, deposit 11 months ahead, but units are only visible for internal exchange until 6 months out. (Three weeks ago, there were suddenly lots of weeks at the Embassy Maui for next April, for example)

This is a general guide, not broken down to tenths of a percentage, and based on a cross-section of actual member deposits from both fixed and floating weeks.

Hope this helps!

Spence,

The numbers you received just do not jive with what I've found.

In reviewing stats for North America, I can see that nearly a quarter of our inventory is received more than one year in advance, and over a third is received six months to a year in advance.
