Doing research on Resort Rental LLC in NJ, the licensed vendor of AFVC, Getravelop and Endless Vacation rentals (among others). I found this press release that really amazes and ticked me. Why do longtime, core RCI members who are the providers of much of the vacation inventory treated less fairly than random renters? Why do we have to pay exorbitant cancellation fees (ever-increasing) to cancel our trips...while the non-dues paying public has access to vacations with a generous, 3 day-no cancellation fee policy? Check it out (if this was posted and discussed already, sorry, I missed it):

ENDLESS VACATION RENTALS INITIATES THE INDUSTRY’S FIRST NO-COST VACATION RENTAL CANCELLATION POLICY

Everything Consumers Need to Know About the Most Popular and Fastest Growing Accommodation Lifestyle

PARSIPPANY, N.J. (February 29, 2008) – Endless Vacation Rentals, one of the Wyndham Worldwide family of brands, is introducing an exclusive, vacation rental, industry-leading cancellation policy. Effective immediately, Endless Vacation Rentals new three-day cancellation policy provides increased flexibility for travelers to change their vacation plans without being penalized.

Under the new program, travelers may change their travel plans for any reason at least three days prior to their scheduled arrival and receive 100 percent of their payment back. The three-day cancellation policy is valid for most properties offered by Endless Vacation Rentals with the exception of certain vacation rental villas in Italy and the U.K.

"Our policy effectively supports the needs of today’s travelers to have flexibility and added confidence in the company they are renting from. Travelers need assurance that they are protected should their vacation plans change. There is no other policy within this segment that offers greater flexibility on such an expansive array of vacation rental offerings." said Jessica Kornacki, Vice President of Marketing for Endless Vacation Rentals. "The idea of a no-cost cancellation policy is nothing new to the hospitality industry; however, it’s a first for the vacation rental industry. This is just one more way that we’re showing a commitment to growing and enhancing the vacation rental category for all travelers."

Endless Vacation Rentals is a one-stop shop that provides access to one of the largest collections of global vacation rental accommodations in the industry today. From studio, one-bedroom, and two-bedroom resort condos in destinations such as Arizona, Florida, Las Vegas, Mexico, and the Caribbean – to villas, apartments and homes in Italy, France, Great Britain and beyond, the range of options abounds. At www.EVRentals.com it’s as easy and convenient to search for, view availability, and book vacation rentals as booking typical hotel accommodations online. :wall: Just an other example of why it may be better to rent than to own. :crash:

I stopped paying RCI membership dues years ago as I found it wasted money. The internet has made joining RCI less necessary for exchanges, rentals, etc.

So basically, it's like the commercial where the new kid in class gets the 64 box of crayons, and the rest of the class gets the 16 box.
It doesn't make life-long customers into life-long lovers of RCI.
There are utility companies that pay millions of $$ every year advertising. When you have a captive customer, it doesn't seem to make sense. But these companies understand the value of a positive public image.
While RCI may be earning that positive public image, from people on the outside, they're not earning it with their captive customers with duplicitous policies like this.
