I noticed something that I thought was very interesting today (March 5, 2006) when I did my monthly exchange availability check.

Tree Tops Resort 1 bedroom timeshare rentals beginning 6/24/06, 7/30/06, and 8/23/06 are available at some of RCI's rental sites. These weeks are not available as exchanges, but then I would not expect them to be.

These three weeks, along with one other, are shown as RCI Extra Vacations, available only to RCI members, at a price of $839.99 per week.

These three weeks are shown on RCI's Government Employees' Travel Opportunities, available to a select group of people who qualify as members, as "High Demand" weeks at a price of $1286.99 per week.

These three weeks, along with several others, are shown on RCI's Holiday Network, available to the general public, at a price of $699.99 per week.

As is all too typical with RCI, ''NON-membership has its priveleges!''

And, as is again all too common, exchangers take back seat to everyone else.

That's a good one. I guess RCI figures that it's easier to rip off proven suckers. They must be targeting people who a) bought prime weeks from the developer, b) deposited their weeks for trade down for years, c) converted their weeks to points for $2995, d) spent their points on airline tickets or a cruise paying more than retail, e) needs to rent a week because they ran out of points.

How typical is this? I currently have 2 RCI Extra Vacations booked. One is available onthe RCI Holiday Network at $300 higher than the extra vacation price and the other is over $400 higher on the Holiday Network than the extra vacation price. I guess it pays to check both before booking.
