I’m very familiar with Interval…..RCI, not at all
Can someone give me a ballpark on RCI pricing?

Say I have a 50k yearly RCI point week
I’d like to know what a trade would ultimately cost me (estimated cost)

I visit Mexico at least once a year and was hoping someone could look up how many points would be needed to book a (2) bedroom in Los cabos at a decent resort. I’m sure it’s more points for a winter week etc

I’m just trying to get a feel for how many points would be needed for trades plus exchange fees etc

I pay $877 for 98K points at the Grandview in Las Vegas.

Then I pay the RCI points membership fee, which is $124 for a year. You can pay a bit less if you buy multiple years ahead of time.

I know nothing of Mexico. Perhaps someone else can help you with that.

In the U.S., I probably average paying 60K-70K points for a week in a 2BR. I've gotten some weeks as cheap as 7,500 points at the last minute.

Over time, I have gotten about two weeks a year with my 98K points.

There are various sales and discounts on points.

We recently stayed in a 1BR at Animal Kingdom Lodge Kidani Village.
That was 56,500 points.
The exchange fee was $249
Disney charges a resort fee of $190. Not all resorts do this. Most are not this expensive.

Sometimes RCI runs sales on exchange fees. Sometimes they run sales on points. If I stay at a Vacation Village resort, the exchange fee is less.

RCI also offers last calls, where you can pay cash for weeklong stays. These can be more affordable than today's lodging rates.

For someone wanting 2BRs, I would hesitate to say that 50K points is enough. If the annual fees are cheap enough, it may be OK. If your plan is to cherry-pick specials and last-calls, it may be OK.

I just did a quick search for 2 bedroom units in January (no specific check-in dates) and see 3 resorts, all gold crown, in Los Cabos and one nearby at Sunset Beach. The points needed for them ranges from 46,000 to 89,000 points per week.

Thanks for the responses

another question, is there a lot of RCI availability in Los Cabos and Puerto Vallarta?

as I mentioned previously I’m very familiar with Interval and as of today there are units available at (15) resorts in Los Cabos approximately (5) of those are AI required so for me I have about about 10 resorts to choose from.
Some have tons of inventory and a few resorts only have one to a few weeks available

I want to know if RCI has a lot more inventory in these locations?

Mexico seems to always have availability in RCI. Most of which require AI.

I also have a points question. If I reserved 3 weeks at a resort for 119,000 points and only have 118K points can I rent the additional 1K points from RCI? Would it cost .03 a point?

When you’re short on points for a reservation, RCI will add what you need, but no more than 1/2 your regular annual points allocation — & naturally there’s a charge. (I did it once but I don’t remember what the charge was, but I didn’t consider it out of line.)

Generally speaking I would say you should do one of two things. Either find out what resort gives you the most points to mf ratio and buy that to use for exchanging so you can get multiple weeks for the week you own. Or do something like what Alan does above, which is just expend the minimum amount possible in order to join/renew with RCI every year and then primarily see what kind of deals you can get off of last call (for last minute cash deals for no points) and/or maybe the under the under 10000 point specials that come up. It may also be appealing to join the first year but simply renew without banking your week for the following years so you benefit from many of the aspects of membership without giving up your week.
