RCI points deposited 10 months out from when?

I just got my RCI points account this morning. Finally! And I think it is going to work out well.

Question: I was reading on another thread about RCI points being posted 10 months out, and that there probably wouldn't be much new availability after that 10 month point. So, 10 months from when? From the beginning of the year? In which case, March would be 10 months out. Or is it from the beginning of the owned week that underlies the points? In which case, there would be new availability weekly.

I'm usually a pretty quick study, but I'm just not getting this. Thanks for your help!

Your own points can/will be deposited on your "anniversary date." That is connected to when you bought. So, if you points account was initialized in March, your point can/will be deposited in March. (Fine print below.)

The ten month rule has more to do when inventory becomes available for you. Suppose you are interested in trading for a Points resort in South Carolina in mid-July. The first time that a non-owner will have a crack at that resort is ten months to the date of check in. If you go to the RCI Points web page and log in as yourself, they will always post the date that they consider to be the ten month mark.

(The fine print - this applies only to when your own points are being deposited) Most resorts use autodeposit (except for the first deposit). That means that your points are automatically deposited for you. Some resorts will not set up autodeposit. You need to call to have a unit deposited so that you can use your points. (There are advantages to this.)

Also, I found my "anniversary date" to come at an awkward time. My resort allowed me to change it for about a thirty five dollar fee. I doubt that many resorts will allow that, however.

Confused? (Probably) Just ask more questions.

Brenda-

Welcome to points. 10 months from the date of check-in. So it is an ever moving point. If you go to the RCI Points page online and select "Standard Reservation" it tells you the latest date that you can reserve as of the day you are looking. Your best chance of reserving a unit at a resort is on the first day it is available as it is at it's maximun availability. As every day goes by past the 10 month point and RCI people make reservations, the inventory goes down. Hope this helps.

Thanks

I think I got it! If, for instance, I wanted a reservation for my birthday, at 10 months and 1 day before that date, no one would have been able to reserve my birthday...the resort would have full availability for my birthday. If I am on the ball, and reserve at the 10 months out, I would have a good chance of getting what I want. The closer to my birthday I went without making a reservation, the higher the chances that others would have taken all the available spaces.

Is that the gist of it? (I'm sure this is like the IRS code, where you have a general rule and then a ton of special exceptions!)

You got it.

Now, a bit of practical advice. Don't count on every listed Points resort to show up at the 10 month mark. Some resorts have large percentages of Points owners and you can usually book these resorts well, well, after the ten month mark. Other resorts are smaller and may not have that many people who have converted. These resorts will show up sporadically, but you can't count on them.

If I am thinking of a particular resort or a particular area, I experiment at the eleventh month mark to see what I might expect when the calandar rolls around to the ten month mark. (In the end, I usually choose among the resorts with good availability. I have never actually sweated out the ten month mark yet.)

If you are talking about going back to your home resort, you can do it between 11 and 12 months, your home group 10 to 11 months. Remember that 10 month date applies only to your own week going into the system, not everyones weeks. There are new weeks coming into the system all the time. I find that weeks are not snapped up like they are in the weeks system.
