Been a member of RCI since the early 80's. Have always gotten good exchanges as needed. I have had an ongoing search for Feb. 2016 to St. Maarten in the works since April 2015. No luck yet. I am not a platinum member. Does it make a difference?

No - Plat gives you some discounts, it doesn't improve your trading power.

I had an ongoing search request for Oahu for several months looking to travel in early December. I had just about given up hope when yesterday it matched up to one of the weeks I was searching. It was only half the tpu's of an earlier hit that was too small for my family. The first week I was looking for is now out of the time period for ongoing searches so I will have to manually search for that week. I feel lucky to have gotten the one that I matched-so don't give up hope!

Well, you can't get more TPU with a Platinum membership but you can get more time to get the full TPU. So, for example, with a regular membership if you deposit 1 year or so before the reservation then you get full TPU but if you deposit 6 months before the reservation then you get less than full TPU. The TPU goes down the closer you get to the reservation. But if you have Platinum membership then the TPU at the time of the deposit doesn't go down UNTIL 6 months before the reservation. It stays "full" for longer than if you had the regular level membership.

I will probably upgrade to Platinum because two benefits would work for me:
  • 10% Extra Getaways
  • 1 day priority booking Extra Getaways
I did the math and in 2014 and 2015 I booked enough Extra Vacations that the 10% would pay for the Platinum membership AND save us more money.

I think I understand the Platinum benefits... Anyone can correct me if I'm wrong.

Hum....I am platinum and didn't know (nor have I received) the 10% off getaways. I just logged in and saw it....is this something new that was put in place over the weekend shutdown?

Yes... they also took away the platinum rebates and replaced them with a new rewards program.

I am platinum and secured one more week in Waikiki for the first week of my trip. Now with the new platinum I have the option IF it becomes available to switch the day of my check in to a few days on either side of the original check in date, and to switch to another resort Should it become available, in addition to the upgrade option. I already had one scheduled for the 10th of December, and was searching for a check in a week earlier, on the third. I found one at the same resort on the second and the VC suggested I wait until after the new platinum platform takes place as I would have additional options, so I waited to confirm until today. The new platinum is now in place and the reservations read very differently. Now I can hope that the date I really need becomes available, if not I will loose a night.:bawl: but still Happy!

Not over the weekend shutdown. It was in place for a few months at least. There were notices about how the Platinum benefits changed for months.

Over the weekend they changed how you log in. You no longer have to choose weeks or points. Not sure what else they changed over the weekend.

The new platinum changes actually went into effect over the wkd. I combined deposits last week to get the rebate before the rules changed.

The effective date was 11/14/15. Any eligible transactions prior to that date still get the rebate. I asked a VC about guest certs that were purchased prior to 11/14 but the actual vacations are not until after. He told me those would still get the $15 rebate once the vacations were completed. I assume the same applies to extra vacations purchased prior to 11/14.

That was probably only for people who already had Platinum. And perhaps it's when the changes took place, but they advertised the changes well before last weekend. I asked a person from "live help" on RCI and she wrote "The new Platinum membership information was posted on the website starting in October."

Guest Certificate question: At one time I understand that Platinum members could have an additional name put on their account so that the person would not need guest certificates.

Is that currently true?

Also do benefits carry over to my weeks account?

My membership is up for renewal and am considering Platinum, will probably call RCI Monday to clarify any questions.

(Anyone have any questions they want me to check out.)

I'm a platinum member but I haven't heard or read that you could put on an additional name on your account - IMHO i dont think its true.

Regarding your weeks, you now have the option to get an upgrade AFTER you have confirmed a vacation. The upgrade is either a bigger unit (as before) or a unit at a different resort. You have the option to list up to 5 resorts that you would like to upgrade to. This only applies if the selected resorts has something available within 14days of checkin.

You also the priority access for selected resorts throughout the world.

/regards
