Hi everyone,

I decided to join RCI Weeks (dropping II) and now have questions about the regional block in Orlando and the 1 in 4 rule while I'm waiting for our resort verification to go through so I can deposit our Orlando units. Until then, I can't see resorts open to me for exchanging.

I know DVC has a regional block, but are there any others in Orlando? The RCI person I spoke with said the only one she could think of was DVC, but surely there are others, right?

Also, the only 1 in 4 rule resort she knew of was Holiday Inn at Orange Lake (or something close to that). Are there any others?

If it matters, we own a 2 bed. lock-off at Legacy Vacation Club, week 34. It pulls 33 TPUs with a combined deposit and I feel like SUCH a fool for trading with II the last two years, giving up a 2 bed. to get a 2 bed. We could have gotten a lot more for our maintenance fee going through RCI and even if we had not been able to use all of our TPUs, we could have sent friends and family on some nice vacations for cheap. :annoyed:

Thanks so much!
-Astrid

The 3 Hilton resorts in Orlando have the 1 in 4 restriction in RCI.

HGVC does have the 1 in 4 rule, however they do have three Orlando resorts and a bit of planning would easily take care of that. DVC is the only Orlando resort(s) with a regional block, that I know of and I thought they had a 1 in 4 rule as well. Maybe a seasoned DVC exchanger like Rick and Cindy could add to this?

The restrictions on Hilton are not terribly hard to get around.

You can book back-to-back weeks at each of the three resorts and still stay at Hiltons 3 of 4 years. The one-in-four the Hiltons put into place is per resort. We have two accounts: our regular account we have had for 28 years, and our Wyndham account. So we can stay at the Orlando Hilton resorts 12 weeks, six times, two weeks at a time, in four years. :cheer:

The problem is Hilton banks weeks so rarely, it's somewhat difficult to get back-to-back weeks when you need them.

Summer Bay has a 1-in-4 rule, too, but it seems to apply to each additional phase of the resort, so you can stay at the Houses and then get a villa in the high-rises the next year with no problem. But who cares? I only want to stay in the Houses.

Orange Lake, I don't care about them at all. I thought theirs was 1-in-3 years, and RCI Points should be exempt from that rule. You can only stay in one of the phases/ villages in three years.

Silver Lake has restrictions, but we don't care about that resort at all. They charged Vodo (longtime TUG member who rarely posts anymore) a housekeeping fee for a week-to-week exchange. I wouldn't risk ever staying there.

No more restrictions in RCI for Vistana, but there were some before. I would rather stay at Vistana than OLCC, Summer Bay an Silver Lake any day. And the inventory is abundant.

That being said, we choose Hilton and Marriott resorts as often as possible, and we own quite a few weeks that trade with II, so Marriott is most often our choice. So it's usually DVC exchanges, Hilton exchanges and Marriott exchanges for us, with an occasional exchange into Vistana Villages (II), Vistana Fountains (RCI), and Bonnet Creek (RCI). Bonnet Creek has no restrictions.:cheer:

You gotta love the variety in Orlando. We stay in Orlando 6-7 weeks per year. Going again on 4/21 staying at Disney's VWL and Vistana Villages with the grown kids. Yeah, we are spoiled.
