Wow. I am shocked. I know that I have been out of the timeshare loop for a while now, but I just called RCI to place an on-going search and was absolutely floored. After making my request for an on-going search, the rep said..Okay..have a good day. I said...umn...excuse me...don't you need my credit card to charge me the exchange fee to conduct the on-going search? I was told...no...we only require $1 on your card now to conduct the search!!! The rep said that this has been the policy since April.

I did as I was told, but can't quite believe it. Is this true? If so, what brought this on? If it is true...good for RCI!!!

News to me too. I currently have an on-going exchange going and they're holding $164.00.

What I wish they'd do away with is charging the full exchange fee when you just put something on hold!

Nope - they wanted $164 from me to enter an ongoing search for our 2009 Hawaii search.

On Hold

I recently put a week on hold, and was asked to charge 164.00 on my credit card.

A day later I did confirm the week...so it was no big deal.

Can anyone else confirm that an on going RCI search only requires 1.00 on your credit card, until a match is found?

Okay....I know that I am not crazy. This is exactly what happened to me today!!! LOL I had better check my charge card tomorrow. The weird thing is....the rep was ready to get off the phone after he placed the exchange and not even charge me anything until I questioned why he didn't ask for the exchange fee. That's when he told me about the $1 charge. I then asked him if I even needed to pay the $1 fee at all since a minute earlier he was prepared to hang up the phone.

I should have known something was wrong. I thought that maybe I missed some huge TUG revolt against RCI or something and they changed this policy :D

I wonder if this is some promo since it has been quite some time since I made an exchange?

I was wondering if they set-up the E-Alert which is an ongoing alert system that notifies you when a resort is available in the area and time your interested in. I have utilized it and received alerts from RCI but it was not the exact week I was interested in, this is free.

I placed an ongoing search today and was asked for the fee. When I asked whether this an now been waived, she said that this was a promotion they were running back in May and is no longer in effect.

You'd think they would have their act together and not be telling different things to different people.

In that when I place a unit on hold (which I now do because of a verify screen hang RCI problem) I have to give all credit card info , even thought they have it on file, and then when I confirm it later , I have to fill in all the same information again...

Funny. My CC was hit for only $1.00

Strange. My last search (ongoing) resulted in my card being hit for $1.00 pretty much immediately. Nothing ever found, and I never bothered to see if the buck was refunded.:(
