I own a 49,000 point Star Island membership, with RCI membership, purchased through ebay. I am tempted to buy more points, since the bottom seems to have fallen even further--today, 128,000 points at Star Island sold for $2.25!
My question is, if I buy more points, how is the RCI fee charged? I now pay $276 per year, which includes RCI. If I buy more points on ebay, say another 49,000 points with a listed MF of $276, do I actually pay less MF because the second $276 includes RCI, which I'm already a member of with my first timeshare? Thanks.

I think I recognise your name as a member of the Wyndham Group/Forum.

Best explaination is to go to www.WyndhamOwners.org and plug in the information to the MF calculator.

I will try to paste a grid which may help, but the MF calculator is the best option.

Usage Points
Plus Partners w/o Plus Partners
154000 and less 105.5 86.82
Over 154,000 and less than 300,000 .68 per 1000 .56 per 1000

No.

The RCI membership is built into the FSP fee which varies by the amount of points owned.

Use the MF calculator for any contemplated purchase, or, any what if scenario.

Just remember each of those little point deeds/transactions have the SAME closing cost as a bigger point package. Learn to use a "Snipe" program and bid in the last seconds a very low ball bid. Get your points cheap in one transaction, using the "savings" for maintenance fees for a year or two. Like getting a free vacation week.

And when you decide to sell, less selling costs also.

I bought 49,000 points at Star Island for $100 to "get my feet wet" and try it out. I have only made one transaction so far . . . trade through RCI for 1 week at Orange Lake in Orlando, and rented out my excess points.
However, when I see 49,000 points again listed for $1, I'm tempted to buy it. I'm not sure I need 128,000 points--which basically cost the same as 49,000 points (!). I don't want to pay that much in MF. I'm crunching the numbers as to if it's cheaper for me to pay RCI $160 or pay MF for more points.
My ultimate plan is to buy Disney Vacation Club for a yearly trip to Orlando, and use my Wyndham for 1 week elsewhere. So I know that more points are cheaper, but in my case it may not make sense.
