After reading previous post about RCI canceling some member's Manhattan Club week, I am a little concern about my exchange week. I would like to be sure before I purchase the airfares and take off from my work.

Here is my questions:

1) Under what circumstances would RCI cancel a confirmed exchange week?
2) In the case RCI cancel a member's exchange week for whatever reason, is there a compensation from RCI for member's loss on airfare, etc (for example, airline don't usually give full-refund if a reservation is cancled)
3)If I choose to purchase the RCI insurance, does the insurance cover all my expense (the money already paid for airfare, etc) when my confirmed exchange week is canceled by RCI?

Thank you!

ivysun99,

I respond to the oldest posts first. Each time a thread is "bumped up" it actually goes to the end of the line. Sorry for the delay.

RCI never wants to cancel confirmed exchanges. It causes distress to our members and more work for us. When we are informed of a problem, it is usually by a resort - a maintenance issue, calendar change, etc. Or, an owner may dispute his or her deposit. RCI can most often replace the exact vacations impacted. In those few situations where this is not possible, RCI will work with members on a case by case basis to determine the next best resolution. Specialists are assigned to work personally with members in these situations.

The Vacation protection does not apply to situations where RCI has to cancel exchanges except for natural disasters.

RCI Insurance is now $50?

Is this true? It used to be $25 per exchange, then a yearof the great $39 per year no matter how many exchanges,. now is it $50 each? Seems kind of high.

Joan,

The BerkelyCare product that protected RCI exchange vacations previously did not provide protection for Trading Power. Access to exchange inventory was greatly reduced in some cases when Trading Power was recalculated. The new product offered by BerkelyCare for $49 USD provides for the deposited week's original Trading Power to be maintained.
