RCI Glitch: Ongoing search for free

I just found a way to do ongoing searches for free. I guess RCI added a feature where if you release a hold, it can keep searching that same day and location for other resorts. But there is a glitch!

Here is how it happens:

I hold a week on RCI. Then when I go to release it, RCI asks if I want to release hold and keep searching or release hold and cancel search, so I click on release hold and keep searching. The system then sets up an ongoing search in your account. All you have to do is go in and modify that ongoing search to how you really want it and save it. No paying the advance $209 exchange fee for an ongoing search, and no $69 RCI Platinum membership needed for free ongoing searches. I tested this and it works on all 4 of my RCI accounts!

Now the secret's out, LOL.
I was actually thinking you had to pay the upfront exchange fee to even hold a unit (sheesh, it's been a while since I exchanged I guess). But now I seem to recall you don't actually pay until you confirm. Senior moment here. :)

I accidentally tested this glitch and it works!

The trick though is that you have to find something very similar to what you want in order to "hold" that reservation and then "release and keep searching." And if you can find something very similar to what you want then maybe you should just keep that.

You can actually change it to anything you want once the search is in place. Different region, different dates. You can also add specific resort ids. It is like any other ongoing search.

Really? I tried and wasn't able to. I will try again. If successful I will edit this post.

RCI cancelled my OGS!

This morning I got a phone call from RCI. I have a lot of 2015 points and they wanted to assist me in finding a resort. First of all she told me the points were expiring Dec. 31st but I corrected her as they should roll over automatically. She agreed. Then she noticed that my membership expires on Dec. 31st and wanted me to renew. I told her I was planning to do that next month because I had some big expenses this month and she wasn't happy with my answer. Then she noticed that I had 2 OGS for 2016. These are ones that I had set up using GPLACERS trick. So she cancelled them and "blocked me" from any OGS until I pay my dues. I know that's the rule but now I'm back to square one!

I have a Platinum account so I don't have to pay for my OGS but I have to phone RCI to set them up as Points members can't do OGS online. I hate the inconvenience of phoning RCI and prefer to do everything online. She was rather rude and argumentative throughout the conversation insisting that I would never find anything available in 2016 because most members reserve 2 years out. I told her that doesn't suit my lifestyle and I've been doing fine for the past 10 years. She said "whatever" and hung up on me. Worst customer service experience ever with RCI!

I've read a few threads that have mentioned this but I am also a Points member and have set up my ongoing searches online since I joined RCI this past January, currently having 7 OGSs set up. It's one of the options that is available in the drop-down menu under "Search for a vacation." I am always going in and modifying my current ones. I have never called RCI for an OGS.

I am a Platinum weeks member, I can do an ongoing search, but I must pay. If I don't want to pay I have to call RCI to set up the ongoing search. However, once I have one ongoing search, I am able to do other ongoing search without paying the additional $209.

I have also done OGS online with RCI points, matched, and confirmed, all online. I currently have an ongoing search online with RCI points.
