While searching RCI 'extra vacations,' I found 5 Gold Crown resorts in Cabo available on 10/27/09 (just a few days from now).

However, when searching the 'last call' vacations, no Cabo resorts were available on these dates.

What criteria does RCI use to decide what resorts and WHEN to list them as LAST CALL vacations?

I ask because as EXTRA VACATIONS they are upwards of $500 for the week and as LAST CALLS they would start at about $200.

Also, with only a few days left before the occupancy dates, what happens to those EXTRA VACATIONS that go unsold?

Last Call Offerings Are (Mostly) Within 45 Days Of Check-In.

What criteria does RCI use to decide what resorts and WHEN to list them as LAST CALL vacations?
Last Calls are mainly the leftover dogs & cats, offered up at bargain rates so RCI can get something for'm while they're still good rather than getting nothing for'm when they expire untaken & unused.

That means the high-demand timeshares in prime vacation spots are unlikely to show up on the Last Call lists.

However, some super-nice places in prime locations during off-season can & do show up as Last Calls.
Also, with only a few days left before the occupancy dates, what happens to those EXTRA VACATIONS that go unsold?
If the time comes & goes with nobody checking in & nobody using the timeshare weeks that were turned over to RCI, then -- POOF ! -- they simply disappear & go to waste.

Last calls are cheap, but extra vacation aren't. I have been watching some in Asia, e.g. China, Thailand and Indonesia. There is nothing in last calls but lots in extra vacation. However, I can get a better rate in the market, so why bother!!!

If they go unused RCI loses nothing since they didn't pay anything for them. They got them free from us! Why would they put them in Last Call if they can train us to not expect the good weeks in LC's. So, if we see a good week in Extra Vacations we are trained that the only way to get it is to pony up the $$$$'s. I'm sure that over time they've decided that their business plan is profit optimized by using this method.

I wonder if they can write off the lost opportunity of the unused weeks against their profits?

KOZ.......that answer makes good sense. If we knew RCI would put them on the LC list after nobody buys the Extra Vacations, then RCI would be hard pressed to sell those weeks at the hgher price. SO I guess for now their answer is to that is to just et the weeks go unused.
