Does anyone know if there are exceptions to the policy RCI has regarding expiring weeks?
RCI expired 2 of our weeks.
We have been paying to extend our weeks for awhile.
I've been told a member could only extend weeks 12 months beyond the original expiration.
We had been traveling ..... using our weeks at our resorts or exchanging or depositing them with RCI ... for years.
Over the past 3 years,we have not been able to take vacations due to illness. We have tried to have gift weeks but dates or places to go have not worked out for others.
We had a major move over the summer. During that time, I missed the expiration to extend our weeks.

With the cost to purchase timeshare plus the fees, it is unreasonable not to be able to pay to extend weeks when you have good reason not to use the weeks.
Most people have timeshare because the want to travel so when you are not traveling something must be going on in your life.
seems like exceptions ought to be part of the RCI policy.

does anyone have an opinion?

As far as I know, there is a limit to one extension of 12 months, beyond that they won't extend your weeks. If you simply missed the deadline to do so, you might be able to convince a supervisor to backdate an extension for you.

But if the supervisor is able and willing to do something about the weeks, another option might be to combine the points (TPU) from the two week. That will bring about a 2 year extension rather than one, and you pay a single fee of $99. When you are ready to exchange again, you can then use the total points for a single big exchange, or several smaller ones (you get change back).

I would suggest reading up on the sticky thread about the new RCI exchange program, which all RCI weeks members now use.

Older Weeks!

Hey Mel, Would that work for 2 older deposits?
I have 2 left that expire 12/31/2011. If I can combine them for $99 and even get another year it might be worth it.

You can combine them and your new expiry date will be (whatever day you combine them) 2013. Your combined deposit will expire two years from the date of combination.

Arnie, if your deposits are based on wyndham points I don't think you can do the tpu combine/extension.

thanks but we own weeks not points.

when i spoke with the supervisor she said she could not do anything about those weeks lost in august and september,2011.

rci policy sickens me ..... we feel like we flushed money down the drain
...between illness and moving live happens

we may consider calling back to see if any other supervisor will attempt a solution.... i'm not sure how good rci is with customer service ... time will tell

thanks again,
thelma

thanks but we own weeks not points....
The posters on this thread were talking about RCI Weeks, not RCI Points. For the past year, RCI Weeks has used a "Exchange Credit" system where each week is given a certain number of "credits." By paying a $99 fee, it is possible to combine two (or more) weeks into one big deposit with an expiration date two years in the future.

I don't know if you can do anything about the weeks that have already expired, but this is something you can do in the future to avoid having weeks expire.

If you can't do anything about the expired weeks, it is best to forget them and move on. (I've had exchanges I had to cancel and deposits that expired when I was sick, too, so I know how it feels.) There are some GREAT deals to be had now under RCI's new system. Get a few great trades in, and you won't feel as bad about the ones you lost.

I heard of someone who was able to extend about a week past her extension date, but I was not allowed to do it 2 or 3 weeks past. So it sounds like they won't do it if you're too far past the deadline.
