Hi, I just bought my first timeshare (resale):cheer:

I haven't got any of my new membership material yet, but I was wondering how exchanges work within RCI. For example, if I have a studio can I only get a studio in exchange? Or am I allowed to get say a 1 or 2 bedroom?

Thanks for your help,

Carol

HI! I live in the Hudson Valley as well! We're neighbors!

Where is your timeshare ownership?

I haven't used RCI in years, but it is generally easier to exchange for a like unit. If you want something bigger you need to save your TPU's until you have enough for a bigger size.

You can also exchange through the free membership independent smaller companies- like DAE, Platinum Interchange, Trading Places, RTX, etc. Some permit you to upgrade for a fee.

Have fun!

Hi Mary Ann,

I'm from Walker Valley!

I purchased 3 timeshares:

--Seaside Beach Club in Pompano Beach, FL Studio
--Ocean Club Waterview apt., Cubecoy Beach, St Maarten. 1bed/1.5 baths
--Wyndham Elysian Resort, St Thomas Studio

I got them at great prices on eBay.

I don't know what TPU's are yet but I'll do some reading.

Thanks for the help,

Carol

Hi Carol, each deposit into RCI has a point value, called Trading Power. We abbreviate it TPU. Think of them as currency. If you have enough, you can exchange for anything. Obviously, you don't get a lot of TPUs for studios, and those deposits can erode further by depositing late, or being in off season. If possible, and your resort allows it, you should reserve a school holiday week, then deposit that. TPUs can be combined and extended for a price.

Stick around TUG for a while and you, too will be exchanging like a pro.

This is correct, except for your Wyndham unit. It is deposited directly through the Wyndham website, and doesn't get TPU.

Welcome to timesharing!

Yes, Carol, as you will learn, there are always exceptions- made worse when you own more than one system. These various 'points' don't translate one to another. Each one is discrete, even though some systems carry some exchangeability into others. Like Wyndham into RCI.

OMG!!!! I live in Walker Valley!!!! What are the chances???!!

TPU's represent the trading power of the units/weeks you own and what they will get you when you exchange. Like points- but within the weeks trading system.

I own 2 weeks timeshares myself.

I sent you a PM so check your Private Message box.
