Hopefully this will make sense ...

I am planning on using RCI points to exchange for 1 week at SSR (pending availabilty, obviously). My question is, if I make an exchange that I end up being unable to use, am I able to sell/rent that to a third party or am I "stuck" with it? I am unsure of the timeframe for cancellation or if DVC would be able to switch the reservation since it initially began with RCI points.

Thanks for any information you can provide.

You can not sell or rent any RCI exchanges. They can cancel the reservation and terminate your account if caught. DVC will not be able to "switch" the reservation.

That is what I was thinking. Thanks for the info. If we can't make the reservation we will just lose the RCI points.

You can cancel and depending on the timing may get back a percentage of your points used (not the exchange fee though). You can also give the reservation to friend or family member paying for a guest certificate.

You could buy points protection so you would not lose any points if you cancel.

fyi-I believe that RCI points would then revert back to their original expiration date. I think that you can join platinum and extend your points for an extra year now.

If you're unable to use it, you could also donate it or give it away rather than let the points go to waste. You can't claim it as a deduction if you donate it, but you can still do good :)

If you cannot use it, you can add a guest and gift it to a friend. That is perfectly fine. I see no reason for folks to make it seem like these are not transferrable because they are. You are just not to accept a rental income for the weeks. That would be against the rules.
