I was going to do an exchange through RCI at an AI resort. My wife and I will be traveling with our 2 kids who will pay 1/2 the adult. A 2 bedroom at this resort requires a 3 adult minimum. Am I correct in thinking that I will meet this with 2 adults plus 2 kids at 1/2 the adult rate?

I believe you will not meet the minimum. They really stack AI's value against exchangers. I think they will expect you to pay for 3 adults and your second child can go for 1/2 the adult price.

Also, a lot of resorts charge more for the AI (not counting the exchange) than if you booked the room directly.

AI and Timeshares just don't seem to be a good deal, IMO.

I have found this to be true. OP might save money looking for the same AI through a discount travel seller, meaning room and AI is likely to be cheaper than AI alone via the exchange. Save the deposit for a more useful interval!

We were looking at doing the same trade but with last call. Looks like a good deal until you factor in the AI fees, flight, transportation to and from the airport, etc. With all that factored in we booked a package with the AI resort direct and probably saved $500 vs doing a last call vacation for $244. I would hate to try to calculate how bad it would have been if we were going to trade with points.

Not a good deal. Long story short, if you can afford it you are better off booking a package with the resort, you will be money ahead.

I've always wondered about that. Any time I've looked, I've never found anything I would consider even close to a good deal. I've wondered if there are some gems out there, but I sure haven't found any.
