It is 10:30 pm eastern standard time. RCI is not supposed to shut down to 12:01am, but it looks like it is already non-functional.:annoyed:

Points side is still up - I'm on it right now. Toggling back and forth to read reviews of resorts :)

Add: Yep, just tried to login to Weeks and it's close up tight. Funny too as the enhancements are supposed to be focusing on Points - so why the early closing of the Weeks side??

Shoot, forgot to take my screen shots. I have them of my TPUS, but not of my current exchanges.

One of the emails I recently received stated that the site would be enhanced to provide recomennded exchnages based on your past exchanges and searches. I assumed that that was going to be part of this weekends upgrade

You must have weeks. On the points side, all they stated was enhanced searching.

So far it looks better (points), if you go to RCI.com.

Can't wait to sign in to try it out.

I posted my question in the newbies but only one person replied. You guys seem to have fun in correspondence. Since RCI is shut down during the weekend and some of you might have time to answer my question in this post:D
how do you find out what is the most value of your weeks when you look up in RCI weeks (tools). I do not understand how to work this out. I am fine with the pointssystem. If I request my week with my home resort then deposit with RCI what will happen if I could not get the places I want to go? Could I find out from RCI online what is available before I request my week with my home? My goal is if I could not get to the place where I want to go then I want to rent it instead of deposit with RCI. Any suggestions? My home resort is Villas Sol in Guanacaste , Costa Rica. How I find out what is my resort most popular time?
If I am in a wrong place I am sorry.
Thank you :cheer:

There is a points calculator in the "My account" I think it is, or, "My deposits" section of RCI. You can play around with it to find out which week would be the best to deposit. Please keep in mind that the values are fluctuating. What your week is worth today will not necessarily be what your week is worth in, say, a month.

I don't think that RCI would give you a list of what is available before you open an account and deposit a week with them. The inventory changes constantly.

If you can't get to the place you want to go, you will have to make another choice, basically. There are no guarantees with exchanging.

Once you have deposited your week with RCI you cannot, with very, very rare exceptions, get it back to try to rent out if you're not happy with the results.

In other words, you deposit your weeks and take your chances that RCI will have something that you want. If you have very specific desires, and I understand you are looking consistently for exchanges to Thailand, you may want to look at some of the smaller independent companies - see some of the stickies at the top of the exchanging board. Or if you can get a great week and it would rent well, you may decide to rent your timeshare and use the rental income to rent where you want to go.

I hope this might help answer some of your questions. Looks like you have to get busy to get in front of the learning curve on how to use your timeshare but this is the place to do it.

You just need to wait a bit longer for the newbies forum to answer - nobody here is paid to be on call to answer questions - so we sometimes take our sweet time :p

The only way to be sure and get a week you want is to own it.

Apparently that chance is gone, because you bought in Costa Rica while you really want to go to Thailand every year.

RCI will not let you try out their exchange system unless you become a member, it is just that simple.

You could try signing up at Platinum Interchange since you are already a member there www.platinuminterchange.com and they do have some limited inventory in Thailand.

Also check Redweek.com and SFX.com

Good luck

Wow I did not even know about http://www.platinuminterchange.com/ I just looked at it and it looks like a great second option. The website was very slow and I would like to see traveler reviews. However I am sure going to give them a try. I think the fact that you do not deposit till they find an exchange is the way it should be.

If no one deposited until they found you an exchange, it would be much more difficult to find exchanges.

PI is affiliated with Tricom Management who manage many "mega" resorts and thus they bulk deposit dozens of intervals at a time.

This is why there are always plenty of Jockey Club and San Diego Country Estates intervals at PI.

Don't worry about them.

I've made five exchanges with them in the past 3 years and have been very happy. They always have a facebook special, so last week I saved $15 on my exchange fee. Between them and SFX, I'm thinking of ditching RCI for good!

Hi Bevl,
do I have to reserve my week with the resort first to be able to look up in My account RCI? I think I have to wait till tomorrow to play with the tools.
