I have a sheraton pga/desert oasis that i can deposit with either company, I have only done II up untill now. With the switch over to rci for dvc i may join rci. However I was wondering how likely it is to trade into hhv with rci, i would be looking for the start of december of 2009. Thanks

Hilton deposits very very few Hilton Hawaiian Village deposits into RCI. Owners also have NO control over which resorts do get deposited into RCI. So you can't count on an owner depositing, you must count on Hilton depositing, and they do not deposit very often.

Since Hilton GVC also has other options for your points (other partner programs and Honors points conversions), if you use those options, HGVC needs to raise funds to off set the cost of that point usage outside of the HGVC system. So HGVC rents units out to the public. Why rent Vegas or Orlando units when Hawaii units, especially HHV units, rent at a premium.
You can rent HHV TS units from hilton directly, but I wouldn't count on a trade there. You might get lucky, so never say never, but the odds are against you. Now if you really want to go there you would have a better change renting from an HGVC owner directly.

Are you aware that your SDO & PGA TS's have a 3 day priority for all other Starwood resorts through II, and Starwood now has 3 resorts in Hawaii? That means, that anytime a Starwood resort is deposited, Starwood owners can reserve it 3 days before anyone else. This includes on-going requests and online reservations. And the 3 Starwood resorts in Hawaii are new and very deluxe - 2 on Maui and one on Kauai. Early Dec. is off-season, and I think you have an excellent chance of getting an exchange.

See the Sightings Board for lots of examples of what Starwood owners can reserve on II, using the 3-day Starwood priority.

Sandy has a good explanation on your question.

I just wanted to add that even HGVC owners are finding it difficult to pull Hawaii using the Club Reservation Window and requesting at the first possible moment of 9 months in advance. I had a tough time resreving the week we wanted for this coming January at the 9 month window and, if I hadn't taken the 1 bedroom ocean view unit (I really wanted a 2 bedroom ocean view or an ocean front unit) that first day, I'd have been shut out by the second day, unless I was willing to take a studio unit. If it's becoming difficult for HGVC owners to reserve HHV I hate to think how difficult it might be to get any specific week from outside HGVC's system.
