Hi
@Warmwishes,
RCI is an exchange company that has two different programs: Weeks or Points.
If you are referring to RCI Points, the timeshare you are purchasing has a points value. The points an RCI timeshare is assigned is determined by the size of the unit, the season, location, amenities, view etc. Not all RCI resorts are registered in points.
Purchasing points at your desired resort should (during your home resort period) almost guarantee a stay. You will need to pay your maintenance fees before Reserving your unit, and you need to reserve your home resort 13-12 months before check in date. If you purchase a resort in points and want to exchange quite a bit, it is best to look for a high point value resort That way you could get a few vacations out of your one high points week.
If you are looking for more points, you can borrow points from the next year, or purchase points if you run short. There is also a way another points member can transfer points to you.
It sounds like your resort is affiliated with RCI and The Registry Collection. The Registry Collection is basically upscale luxury lodging. My Tradewinds Crusing Club is affiliated with The Registry Collection. I have not joined the exchange company but it is available to me if I want to use it in the future. The enrollment and exchange fees are much higher than RCI. You will see some of the nicer RCI resorts in the resort directory. You can join one exchange company without joining the other.
Joining the two exchange companies is optional. I have listed the two exchange companies below and you can see what types of resorts could be available to exchange into. I do not know that much about The Registry Collection so I hope others chime in.
