my wife and i just returned from our first time at harborside. some observations.

1. the people of bahamas are incredibly friendly and appreciate you being there.
2. the weather is magnificent
3. atlantis is extravagent. the attention to detail is incredible.

however......

4. we witnessed a screaming match between 2 concierges, both asking me to take their side in the argument... very uncomfortable and unprofessional
5. 19.95 per day for in-room internet connection. a bit excessive?
6. 2 calls to desk. the first on was to have a working toaster, they never showed up. the second was to have an ethernet cable brought to the room. i was promised to have it in 20 minutes. after 4 calls and 5 hours i finally got it. it ruined my day. then they refused to refund the $19.95 for the day.

and the last observation is the most incredible.....
7. i needed some more cash for some cabs and tips, so i went the lobby of harborside, and they told me the only atm's are located in the casinos. this is reprehensible. making people go to a casino to get cash is one of the most disturbing, most disgusting acts of greed i have ever seen.

my wife and i had a great time (as we do ANYWHERE we go) but we will never go back.

Canada eh!
We were pretty shocked also when we were directed to the casino to get cash.

i guess they figure that if just one person ends up staying there and gambles, then it's a huge win for the resort.....but even more distressing is making the gambling addict walk into a casino and tempting that addict..... there is NO excuse for such greed.

the addict is a fool for staying at a resort with the largest casino in the caribbean then. And another thing, literally across the street from harborside is a bank, Scotiabank, and its a closer walk than the casino.

About the 2 staff in a yelling match, you did yourself and the owners of this resort no favors if you did not speak to the supervisor/manager

I believe the Internet for 7 days though averages out to $10 or $11 per day. You'd expect that to be part of maintenance fees, but compared to high-end hotels that is not unusual.

A slight digression: why is it that the so-called "high end hotels" feel the need to charge for internet access while the "lower end" hotels offer them for free? My theory is that the former is frequented by business travelers who just expense the charge, and the hotels loot when the looting is good, while the latter is usually people paying out of their own pocket.

this is also true for large airports vs. smaller airports: the larger ones never have free access (SFO, DFW etc.; Denver is one exception) while the smaller ones provide free access (PDX)

agreed about internet!

On another topic...
Haven't been to Harborside yet but it's high on my list. I do want to suggest that the cash may be in the casino where extra security may be. Even ATM machines get broken in to and you have to worry about employee theft. Just a guess. It's harder to access cash these days (ie delta attendants use credit card only now for snacks..no cash)

siesta, ... Plus, the concierge may have assumed the OP wanted US Dollars. The last time I used the ATM at ScotiaBank I was given Bahamian dollars. The Bahamas is not the US.

The ATMs at the Atlantis casino dispense US dollars.

I'm not sure a disgusting act of greed has anything at all to do with the OP's experience. ... eom

the concierge argument had nothing to do with me. one concierge was helping me with restaurant reservations when a second concierge walked over and told the first to get out of her way so she could use the computer screen. they proceeded to have a screaming match at each other, with both of them asking me if i would back them up in the argument.

as to the ONLY atms located in the casino, you are high if you think it is because of security. it is to give people a little nudge to do a little gambling. this is greed at its worst.

alcarbon22, ... There is no justification for employees having a heated argument in front of guests they are serving.

However, gambling or not gambling is a choice. As long as you can use the ATM, get the money and, exercising free will, leave the premises, I don't see the greed. Inconvenience, maybe; but not greed by the casino.

I guess in your opinion locating the water park, aquarium, star performances and restaurants in the vicinity of the casino is just another act of greed.

Next time, you probably should not visit a place like Atlantis where, in the end, the casino is the main attraction that pays for everything else. ... eom

I'm not positive, but I *THINK* they might have raised their prices about a month ago. We were there then, and when I signed up for Internet access and prepaid for the week, it was something like $70 for 6 days, but later in the week the login screen showed something closer to $110 for 6 days, and that's the amount we were charged. Out of principle, I disputed the difference (and won). Thank you AmEx.

You must live a very sheltered life if this is the worst case of greed you have witnessed.

It looks like they have raised the prices. This is what they have up on Atlantis' FAQs:
Is there internet service in the rooms?
Enjoy the freedom of wireless (WiFi) internet access. Service is available at the Beach Tower lobby, Coral Lounge in the Coral Towers lobby, Plato's Lounge in the Royal Towers lobby and all pool decks at Atlantis and Harborside. Internet fees are as follows:

24 hours-$19.95
48 hours-$39.90 120 hours-$91.75
72 hours-$57.85 144 hours-$107.70
96 hours-$75.80 168 hours-$123.65
Number of devices: 4
Speed: 5MB

All guest rooms offer two options for visitors who prefer to access the internet in the privacy of their rooms. A wired data port is available for those who bring their laptop and wireless internet is available via the NXTV interactive menu. Wireless keyboards are provided in each room and the pricing for these two options is the same as listed above.

Complimentary Internet Access is available for 15 minutes per day, per person at 4 Stations in the Coral Towers Library.
Please note that all prices, features, options and availability of Atlantis Internet Services are subject to change at anytime without notice.
