My MIL has a serious problem, with a family of raccoons... on her roof !!!
She lives in San Francisco in one of them "row houses".
It's a two-story structure and pretty difficult to get on her roof,
to assess the situation.

She's constantly being awaken from the commotion throughout the night.
At times the noise occurs during the day.

I wouldn't normally "hurt" an animal... (don't believe in hunting, etc.)
But... since this has been going on so long, I'm willing get rid of them, permanently ;)

Yes... I'm aware it's against the law to injury these pests.

The odd thing is none of her neighbors are being affected !
I suspect they have a "nest" up on her roof.

We called a rodent/pest removing company.
They will set a trap on her roof but wants us to call them if/when a critter gets caught in their trap.
Her roof is inaccessible to us !!!

Any suggestions regarding the eradication of these rodents would be greatly appreciated. (poison, dynamite, bullets, etc.)

TIA

Does the city have an animal control department? If so, call them and they might be able to help.

I had raccoons in my attic where my office is last winter. I call the county animal control who "baited" a trap in my attic (acessible) and then ask me to call if trapped. Then, the "kicker" told me that they could NOT transport the critters OFF my property as it was against Federal law ... they would release them on my rowhouse size lot only.

More research. They are quiet during the day as they are sleeping. Buy "wolf" or "fox" urine to drive them away. Get a roofer to fix the hole(s) which they are using to get into your MIL's attic ... which is why their neighbors aren't hearing noises on their roofs. The raccoons are between the roof and the ceiling, not on the roof.

City raccoons are getting more common - they can be big and nasty and aggressive. My aunt has them in her downtown Philadelphia neighborhood, too. They feed out of dumpsters, trash cans, dog food left out.

PM me for another solution ;) -
