Hello All!

Long story short - We were sold on a 105,000 pt program out of Alexandria for $19,000 in November. We took a trip this weekend where a we had a 2 hour get to know your package type thing set up with Wyndham. Once getting there it was revealed that we did not buy into what we thought (trust program) but were specific to Alexandria - we had intended to buy into a 210,000 point trust program but at the last second they presented a cheaper option without explaining the change in programs - in the end we were sold into a 400,000 point trust program for $70,000.

Well I finally got around to researching the last couple of days and are finding this to be a mistake.

We are still within our rescind period although we will still default back to the original contract, so shame on me, Wyndham has us for $19,000 regardless. I am finding that I can still save $60,0000 by rescinding and I believe I will do that tomorrow.

Can anyone provide some advice on how to more cheaply get VIP benefits (namely I'm thinking finding a tradeable week-type timeshare) and augmenting with resale Wyndham points.

Any Advice would be appreciated greatly! I am pretty sure recinding is the right thing to do at this point, but am open to the opinions of more experienced Timeshare users.

Obviously this all is extremely embarrassing to even type - I'm a guy who reads and researches purchases as simple as a litter box, but somehow managed to get myself suckered into this not once but TWICE! looking to correct the error of my ways and manage the damage done.

Rescind, rescind, rescind!

Follow the instructions to the letter as to how and where to mail your documentation.

I wouldn't worry about VIP at this point. My only priority would be rescinding immediately.

as famy27 says, Rescind first, then worry about VIP.

Using the PIC program, for something like $20000 you can get from where you are (105000 points) to Gold (compared to the $70000 it will cost you to get to Silver if you dont rescind).

To be clear: You've been hornswoggled.
Meaning: bamboozled, beguiled, duped, hoodwinked, snookered, etc.

As the others say: RESCIND NOW!
Follow the instructions to the letter, even if you think there's a better way.

Leave the program details for another day when you've had a cooling off period.

Today would be an excellent day to get that rescission letter in the mail! It needn't be fancy or legalese. Just:

I/We wish to cancel contract #____________ Dated ____________

Signed ________ Husband ________________Wife

Promotional materials to be returned under separate cover.
Make a copy of the signed contract pages and send them- not the originals.
Send it Certified USPS w/return receipt The address is toward the end of the contract. It isn't where you bought, but that is where to send their junk.

Welcome to TUG. Doing the above will save you $50,000. We can help you spend it more wisely.

You were sold Club Wyndham Access points, they have no deed and no home resort, they are Wyndham's future. But yeah, you can pick them up on eBay for a fraction of what the Developers are asking. Look at VIP benefits, if the benefits are not worth $50K to you, buy resale.

In a perfect world, you'd have found TUG after the first purchase, but luckily you're smart enough to admit your mistake and get help on how to do it better :)

Wyndham is like the a Hotel California meaning you can check out anytime you like but you can never leave.

We have been lied to by Wyndham. I am happy that you realized it within your 30 day grace period.

We were told that it is a great investment. If it so great, where isn't there a competitive market for these great investments.

Can anyone provide some advice on how to more cheaply get VIP benefits
VIP is a smokescreen. There is no way (on average) to obtain it for less money than the VIP perks are worth. Why? Because sales pays for the VIP perks. They can only do that out of their own profits, after the costs of building, marketing, etc.---which must mean that they make more money than the VIP perks are worth.

And they do. Much more.

There are some ways of getting VIP transferred from one owner to another with foresight and sufficient planning, but that original owner had to have paid too much to Wyndham at some point to get status in the first place. What's more, this is still of dubious value, IMO, because the VIP perks can and do change on a whim.

Ignore VIP. It's only purpose is to give you a new target to hit that you haven't quite gotten to yet, to make you feel like there is something out there that you don't have but should---and if you only give Wyndham more money, you can! Don't.
